LIMERICK » A home in Limerick was left destroyed late Thursday morning after a fire ripped through the house.

Fire crews were called to the scene at 10:52 a.m. Thursday for a report of a working house fire on the 100 block of Gristmill Lane in Limerick. The house, which is located in a development just off Ferndale Road, was heavily involved when first responders arrived, officials said.

“The right side of the house was well off,” said Limerick Fire Chief Ken Shuler. “Our first units in were the ladder truck and the engine and we went into what we call ‘defensive mode’ which is an exterior attack because the house was already in flames.”

Shuler said when first responders arrived, all of the occupants including pets had made it out of the house. The State Police Fire Marshal added that at the time of the blaze, only two occupants were home.

By around 12:30 p.m., crews from PECO and American Water could be seen working at the scene. Shuler said American Water came to shut off the home’s water supply and PECO came to turn off electric and gas sources.

“The problem is we have gas blowing off and it’s lit, but that’s what you want. You don’t want gas blowing off and it’s not lit,” said Shuler. “Otherwise it’s just mulling around waiting for something to light it off. So crews are here to pinch off that line and once they do that we’ll be able to get those hot spots out.”

No injuries were reported in the blaze, but Shuler said in terms of damage, the home is a complete loss.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the State Police Fire Marshal.

Responding to the scene were Limerick and Linfield fire companies, Royersford, Sanatoga, Trappe, Ridge and Skippack fire companies. Trappe Ambulance and Limerick and Linfield Fire Police were also on the scene.
