Limerick Fire Company urges fireworks safety

-

LIMERICK » As the Fourth of July holiday approaches, Limerick Fire Company is reminding residents about requirements involving the use of fireworks.

Limerick Fire Company wants to remind township residents that fireworks require a permit in the township. The process must go through the Township Fire Marshal’s Office and review time is 30 days for the permits.

The main reason for this process is safety, the fire company said. According to the National Fire Protection Agency, nationwide 47 percent of fires reported on July 4th are caused by fireworks. The Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that in 2014, 35 percent of all fireworks injuries were to children under 15 years of age. The same report states that almost 20 percent of the fireworks injuries seen nationwide were caused by sparklers, which makes them the most dangerous firework available, often because they are given to young children who are burned.

The Limerick Fire Company is encouraging residents to have a great holiday season and come out to the only approved public fireworks display and private event in the township on July 4th at Turtle Creek Golf Course & Waltz’s Golf Farm at 303 W. Ridge Pike in Limerick.

There will be food trucks there at 6 p.m., live music, and all the great fun available at the golf farm daily. It is also an opportunity for the public to meet local area firefighters, who will be selling hot dogs and hamburgers during the event. In addition, first responders from out surrounding mutual aid companies who will be out standing by to ensure fire safety.

Just a reminder that there are no fireworks permitted on the site at Waltz Golf Course.
