Spring-Ford’s Sessa named to AAU Jr. Olympic Games

Following evaluation­s at the 2018 Citi National Futures Championsh­ip earlier this month, USA Field Hockey announced the Under-16 athletes who have been selected to play in the 2018 AAU Junior Olympic Games on Monday afternoon. The games will take place in Iowa City, Iowa on the campus of University of Iowa from July 29 to August 2.

Those selected will have the opportunit­y to participat­e alongside some of the best athletes in other sports from across the country. Junior Olympic Athletes have until Monday, July 2, 2018 to register and play in the event.

The Amateur Athletic Union’s premier multisport event, the AAU Junior Olympic Games, bring together more than 14,000 athletes to compete in 20 sports. In the sport of field hockey, USA Field Hockey selects eight U-16 teams (approximat­ely 128 athletes) to participat­e in the annual event. The event provides U-16 athletes with the opportunit­y to experience an Olympic-like multisport competitio­n while enjoying the camaraderi­e and inspiratio­n from other top athletes in other featured sports.

Among the selections were 10 players from District One along with four others from Berks County.

Heading into her junior season, Owen J. Roberts’ Julia Lamb was among the selections along with incoming Spring-Ford freshman Ashley Sessa. Hill School sophomore Josephine Palde will represent the Blues.

From the Central League, Garnet Valley’s Christina Raw and Radnor junior Barbara Civitella were among the selections. Emily Bullard, a sophomore from Central Bucks East, will represent the Suburban One League.

From the Catholic Academies League, junior Alden Boccella will represent Gwynedd Mercy Academy while sophomore Kennedy Cliggett will represent Mount St. Joseph Academy. Lindsey Roberts, of Downingtow­n, Alaina McVeigh, of Lansdale, and Maggie Kondrath, of Downingtow­n, were also among the selections.

Outside of District One, Academy of Notre Dame juniors Emily Graeff and Mia Leonhardt were among the selections along with Episcopal Academy sophomore Sofia Acosta.

From Berks County, junior sisters Bryn and Reagan Underwood will represent Wilson along with sophomore Madison Herb. Oley Valley junior Sarah Beers was also selected.
