Teen Writing Group: Mondays from 4 to 5 p.m. For students ages 12 to 18 by students ages 12 to 18. Drop in; no registration required. Students are welcome at this after-school writing group. The group will gather to share creative writing tips, respond to writing exercises and prompts and just show up to write. Bring something you’ve already begun and want to finish or get started on a new writing project. No previous writing experience is necessary; all writing genres and styles are welcome. Phoenix Fiction Writers: Adult writers of fiction invited to attend twice monthly meetings of the Phoenix Fiction Writers at the library. Free. Group meets second Thursday and third Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the library’s Harrop Room. Led by Eric Parmer, offering local writers education, empowerment and constructive criticism. Writers ask questions about the writing process, read work out loud and receive/offer input on material read. Free and open to public. Legal Outreach Clinic: A free legal clinic will be offered at Phoenixville Public Library on the first Thursday of the month from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Ian J. Michener, Esq. of Rick Linn, LLC offers this Phoenixville Legal Outreach Clinic, providing information, counseling, and advocacy in various areas of law, including family law, trusts & estates, criminal defense, landlord-tenant law, and legal issues facing small businesses. Attendees receive a free 20-minute consultation with an attorney, who will provide counseling and access to legal resources as needed. Consultations are provided on a first-come, first served basis. ESL Conversation Group: An ESL Conversation Group meets each Saturday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Phoenixville Public Library. Microsoft Office & More Classes: Learn Microsoft Office programs, QuickBooks, website design, and more in a series of classes to be held on at the Phoenixville Public Library. IT professional Ernie Tidball is the instructor. Class time is 10 a.m. to noon unless otherwise noted. The class schedule is as follows: Website Design with JavaScript (June 30). Basic knowledge of computers and the ability to use a keyboard and mouse are required. Students should bring a USB drive if they wish to save their work and may bring their own laptops with Microsoft Office 2013 installed for the Excel and Publisher classes. The classes are free and open to the public. Space is limited. Reservations are required. When registering, indicate if you will be bringing a laptop. Libraries Rock!: Summer Reading Clubs continue through Aug. 11 with three levels from birth through high school ages. Read for enjoyment, complete summer reading assignments and earn incentives and chances toward prizes. Visit the library to enroll.
Photography Class: Awardwinning professional photographer Laura Keen will teach an intermediate-level photography class Thursday, July 19, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. In this class, participants will find everything you need to improve your photography and start taking more professional looking photographs. Keen will help participants overcome some of their photography fears, teach them how to use shadows and chase light to maximize imagery and guide them through framing and building composition. Adult Summer Reading Program: The 2018 Adult Summer Reading Program at Phoenixville Public Library will run through Aug. 11. You must be at least 18 years old to qualify. Read any book or listen to any audiobook from any Chester County library or the OverDrive eMedia Catalog. Check in your book or audiobook at the Circulation Desk in the Adult Library or bring your list of eMedia loans to the Circulation Desk. Request a book review card for each title you check in or that are listed in your eMedia loans. Each book review card doubles as an entry form for a weekly raffle drawing for a gift card to a local restaurant or merchant. The more books you read and check in, the more chances you’ll have in each drawing. Each program participant who has submitted at least one book review during the course of the Summer Reading Program will be automatically entered into a grand prize drawing for a $100 Amazon gift card at the end of the program. Hootenanny at Camphill Village Kimberton Hills: Hootenanny at Camphill Village Kimberton Hills will be held July 7 from 3 to 9 p.m. at Camphill Village Kimberton Hills, 1601 Pughtown Road, Phoenixville. The event will feature family friendly activities, hayrides, petting zoo, live music, local, organic food from Camphill Kimberton Café, vendors, a raffle and more. Kick back in the sunshine, enjoy some cool refreshing lemonade with some friends while dipping your feet in a kiddy pool, listen to some live music, get your face painted and participate in an epic ultimate frisbee match, all while supporting a good cause. Family fun activities throughout the day will include a petting zoo, sack race, painting, hayrides, games and more.
Family Movie Night: East Pikeland Township will host its annual Family Movie Night Saturday, July 14, at Kimberton Park, 2202 Kimberton Road, Phoenixville. Local favorite Grandpop Bubbles will be bubbling before the movie, beginning around 5 p.m. The movie, “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,” will begin at dusk. Farm, Home and Youth Fair: The Farm, Home and Youth Fair will take place Aug. 9, 10 and 11 at the Montgomery County 4-H Center, 1015 Bridge Road, Collegeville. Everyone can participate in this fun-filled, old-school fair. This traditional 4-H Fair will also feature open class exhibits that anyone from the community can enter. Included are flower, vegetable, cooking and baking, photography and craft exhibits that are judged and awarded first-, second- and third-place ribbons. Online registration will open July 6; entries are due to be dropped off at the 4-H Center July 31, Aug. 6 and Aug. 8 for perishable items. The Fair celebrates the culmination of the 4-H project year for Montgomery County 4-H members. This is the 4-H members’ opportunity to show their families, friends and the public their achievements throughout the year. The livestock and animal science 4-H members will have their animals on display and show them and answer questions. Other 4-H clubs will also have their projects on display and will be on hand to promote 4-H and their clubs. The Creamery Crafters Club will hold its Fabric Sale. There will be demonstrations, contests, games, music, an Open Pet Show and food. Activities will include Make-It and Take-It, Fun with Food, Adventures with Herpetology, Rabbit Hopping, Goat Yoga and a Kiddie Tractor Pull. Kendal Conrad, Sound Sensations DJs and the Daisy Jug Band will provide musical entertainment. The horse clubs will offer pony rides and a horse show Aug. 10.
