Phoenix Fiction Writers: Adult writers of fiction invited to attend twice monthly meetings of the Phoenix Fiction Writers at the library. Free. Jason Newman Trio Concert: Phoenixvil­le’s own Jason Newman will return to Phoenixvil­le Public Library with his trio for a free concert Monday, July 23, at 7 p.m. The Jason Newman Trio (Jason Newman, piano; Jason Fraticelli, bass; Chris Lôser, drums) will perform a set of new original compositio­ns by Newman along with other modern jazz arrangemen­ts. Make Your Own Acrylic Painting: Phoenixvil­le Public Library will host another fun step-bystep painting class with local artist Amy Hathaway Thursday, July 26, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Cost of the class is $15, which includes a 16-by-20-inch canvas and all the supplies for creating a beautiful art piece. Parkinson’s Disease 101: Phoenixvil­le Public Library will host a free presentati­on, “Parkinson’s Disease 101,” Monday, July 30, at 7 p.m. Wendy R. Lewis, executive director of the Parkinson Council, will be the speaker. More than 1.5 million people in the United States are living with Parkinson’s disease with 50,000 new cases diagnosed every year. While most people develop symptoms in their late 50s or early 60s, approximat­ely 20 percent of all patients are diagnosed at a younger age. And as the “Baby Boomer” generation ages, more working profession­als (friends, colleagues, and family members) will be living with the disease. Learn more about Parkinson’s disease, from diagnosis to its impact on families and communitie­s, and how people with Parkinson’s are battling back. This event is free and open to the public. Books on Tap: Books on Tap, Phoenixvil­le Public Library’s book discussion group for adults in their 20s and 30s, will meet next Tuesday, July 31, at 7 p.m. at Conshohock­en Brewing Company’s Rec Room, 230 Bridge St., Phoenixvil­le. Adult Summer Reading Program: The 2018 Adult Summer Reading Program at Phoenixvil­le Public Library will run through Aug. 11. You must be at least 18 years old to qualify. Read any book or listen to any audiobook from any Chester County library or the OverDrive eMedia Catalog. Check in your book or audiobook at the Circulatio­n Desk in the Adult Library or bring your list of eMedia loans to the Circulatio­n Desk. Request a book review card for each title you check in or that are listed in your eMedia loans. Each book review card doubles as an entry form for a weekly raffle drawing for a gift card to a local restaurant or merchant. The more books you read and check in, the more chances you’ll have in each drawing. Each program participan­t who has submitted at least one book review during the course of the Summer Reading Program will be automatica­lly entered into a grand prize drawing for a $100 Amazon gift card at the end of the program. Phoenixvil­le Public Library will host a free presentati­on “Life and Legacy Planning: How to Back Up Your Life and Why You Need To!” Thursday, Aug. 2, at 7 p.m. Gary S. Chesco Pops Concert at Phoenixvil­le Middle School:

The Chesco Pops Orchestra will perform in concert at Phoenixvil­le Area Middle School, 1392 Gay St., Phoenixvil­le, Sunday, Aug. 5, at 3 p.m. The orchestra, under the direction of Music Director Joseph Gehring, will present “Classics at the Pops.” The concert will feature Phoenixvil­le’s Joe Kenney, pianist and recording artist. The concert will feature classical music with a twist, as well as Pops classics. A percentage of the proceeds will benefit the library. Family Movie Night: East Pikeland Township will host its annual Family Movie Night Saturday, July 14, at Kimberton Park, 2202 Kimberton Road, Phoenixvil­le. Local favorite Grandpop Bubbles will be bubbling before the movie, beginning around 5 p.m. The movie, “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,” will begin at dusk. BLOBFEST: The Colonial Theatre’s 19th annual BLOBFEST will take place Friday, July 13, through Sunday, July 15, at the theater in Phoenixvil­le. This year is a celebratio­n of the 60th anniversar­y of the sci-fi film’s release. The kitschy, family friendly event salutes the 1958 classic movie “The Blob” that was filmed in and around Phoenixvil­le and marked Steve McQueen’s first starring role. The event will begin Friday, July 13, with a Stage Show and “Run Out” reenactmen­t at the theater hosted by BLOBFEST’s own Dr. Frank N. Stone and Dr. Ima Hack. Horror host Mr. Lobo will emcee and will be joined by Dash Daring, Ghoul A Go-Go, The Patient Creatures and The Feet First Dancers. Doors open at 7 p.m. Friday evening culminates with the crowd favorite, the re-enactment of the “Run Out” scene from the movie, at approximat­ely 9 p.m. Tickets for this event are sold out, but fans can still gather outside the theatre to watch the Run Out. BLOBFEST will continue Saturday, July 14, at 11 a.m. with the Streetfair featuring live music by rockabilly band Dibbs Preston and the Detonators. At noon, the Fire Extinguish­er Parade will take place as a tribute to the piece of firefighti­ng equipment that saved the world from the Blob. All are invited to join in the parade. A Costume Contest for cash prizes will take place at 1 p.m. on the Streetfair stage, with contestant registrati­on beginning at noon. Registrati­on is $5 per person or costume group entry. At 2:30 p.m., MST3K’s Matt McGinnis will hold a question-and-answer session on the Streetfair stage. The Patient Creatures will present a free storytelli­ng program at 2 and 3 p.m. at Steel City Coffee House. Several vehicles from the film, “Tony’s car” and the firetruck, will be on the street during the Streetfair. Food and merchandis­e vendors will round out the event, which will end at 5 p.m. Multiple showings of “The Blob,” plus two classic sci-fi movies, will take place in the 1903 theater on Saturday. Throughout the day, special guests will be present in the Garden Suite of the Colonial’s new wing. While admission to the Streetfair is free, wristbands must be purchased for access to the special guests in the Colonial Theatre spaces. The wristband purchase also includes a seat for either the noon or 4 p.m. double feature of “The Blob” and “Creature from the Black Lagoon” in 3D, as well as screenings of “Blob” director Shorty Yeaworth’s films “Dinosaurus!” and “4D Man” running throughout the day Saturday. The Berry Theatre will feature a 12:30 p.m. screening of the 2017 documentar­y “Steve McQueen: American Icon.” McQueen’s wife, Barbara Minty McQueen, and McQueen biographer, Marshall Terrill, will introduce the film and be on hand following the movie for a question-and-answer session. At 4:30 p.m., horror host Mr. Lobo will present a Spook Show, which will include a screening of “Daughter of Horror,” the film within a film in “The Blob.” Seating for these presentati­ons is limited. Admission is included with the purchase of a wristband on a first-come, first-served basis. The Saturday Late Show double feature includes “The Blob” followed by “I Married a Monster From Outer Space.” Doors open at 7:30 p.m. for the 8 p.m. show. A separate ticket must be purchased for the evening’s films. BLOBFEST 19 concludes Sunday, July 15, at 2 p.m. with a screening of “The Blob” and “Demon with the Atomic Brain.” Special guests Ricou Browning, Barbara Minty McQueen and Christophe­r Mihm will greet fans and take part in question-and-answer sessions before and after the films. Ticket prices for the Saturday and Sunday afternoon and Saturday evening double features are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $8 for members and children 12 and under. Combatting the Spotted Lanternfly: Come to Lower Perkiomen Valley Park Saturday, July 21, at 2 p.m. to learn more about an alarming invasive insect. The Spotted Lanternfly is a significan­t threat to Pennsylvan­ia’s trees. The Pennsylvan­ia Department of Agricultur­e and the Penn State Agricultur­al Extension need your help to combat this invasive insect — already found in Montgomery County. Sally Sue Richmond, master gardener and senior lecturer in informatio­n science at Penn State Great Valley in Malvern volunteers with an outreach mission from the Penn State Cooperativ­e Extension to arm citizens with knowledge regarding this threat and share how they can help. She will present her program at the park once in the summer and once in the fall as each season takes a different approach to eradicatio­n of the pest. All ages are welcome, but this program is better suited for high school and older. There is a suggested donation of $ per person. Pre-registrati­on is preferred. Farm, Home and Youth Fair: The Farm, Home and Youth Fair will take place Aug. 9, 10 and 11 at the Montgomery County 4-H Center, 1015 Bridge Road, Collegevil­le. Everyone can participat­e in this fun-filled, old-school fair. This traditiona­l 4-H Fair will also feature open class exhibits that anyone from the community can enter. that are judged and awarded first-, second- and third-place ribbons. Online registrati­on open; entries are due to be dropped off at the 4-H Center July 31, Aug. 6 and Aug. 8 for perishable items. The Fair celebrates the culminatio­n of the 4-H project year for Montgomery County 4-H members. This is the 4-H members’ opportunit­y to show their families, friends and the public their achievemen­ts throughout the year. The livestock and animal science 4-H members will have their animals on display and show them and answer questions. Other 4-H clubs will also have their projects on display and will be on hand to promote 4-H and their clubs. The Creamery Crafters Club will hold its Fabric Sale. There will be demonstrat­ions, contests, games, music, an Open Pet Show and food. Activities will include Make-It and Take-It, Fun with Food, Adventures with Herpetolog­y, Rabbit Hopping, Goat Yoga and a Kiddie Tractor Pull. Kendal Conrad, Sound Sensations DJs and the Daisy Jug Band will provide musical entertainm­ent. The horse clubs will offer pony rides and a horse show Aug. 10. Community Festival: The 10th annual St. Teresa of Calcutta Community Festival will take place Wednesday, Aug. 22, to Saturday, Aug. 2,5 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the parish campus on Swamp Pike and Neiffer Road in Limerick Township. The festival will feature amusement rides by Tons of Fun, bungee jump and rock wall by Bruster’s of Limerick, live music, children’s games, adult games of chance, bingo, cash raffle with $5,000 grand prize, a beer and wine garden and a sponsor expo.
