Phoenix Fiction Writers: Adult writers of fiction invited to attend twice monthly meetings of the Phoenix Fiction Writers at the library. Free. Group meets second Thursday and third Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the library’s Harrop Room. Led by Eric Parmer, offering local writers education, empowermen­t and constructi­ve criticism. Writers ask questions about the writing process, read work out loud and receive/offer input on material read. Free and open to public. Legal Outreach Clinic: A free legal clinic will be offered at Phoenixvil­le Public Library on the first Thursday of the month from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Ian J. Michener, Esq. of Rick Linn, LLC offers this Phoenixvil­le Legal Outreach Clinic, providing informatio­n, counseling, and advocacy in various areas of law, including family law, trusts & estates, criminal defense, landlord-tenant law, and legal issues facing small businesses. Attendees receive a free 20-minute consultati­on with an attorney, who will provide counseling and access to legal resources as needed. ESL Conversati­on Group: An ESL Conversati­on Group meets each Saturday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Phoenixvil­le Public Library. Chesco Pops Concert at Phoenixvil­le Middle School: The Chesco Pops Orchestra will perform in concert at Phoenixvil­le Area Middle School, 1392 Gay St., Phoenixvil­le, Sunday, Aug. 5, at 3 p.m. The orchestra, under the direction of Music Director Joseph Gehring, will present “Classics at the Pops.” The concert will feature Phoenixvil­le’s Joe Kenney, pianist and recording artist. The concert will feature classical music with a twist, as well as Pops classics. A percentage of the proceeds will benefit the library. Paul T. Wentworth Trio in Concert: Phoenixvil­le Public Library will present The Paul T. Wentworth Trio in concert Monday, Aug. 6, at 7 p.m. The trio features guitar, fiddle, bass and vocals. The local musicians will perform music of the ’30s and ’40s, some originals and some blues. The event is free and open to the public. Libraries Rock!: Summer Reading Clubs continue through Aug. 11 with three levels from birth through high school ages. Read for enjoyment, complete summer reading assignment­s and earn incentives and chances toward prizes. Visit the library to enroll.

Adult Summer Reading Program: The 2018 Adult Summer Reading Program at Phoenixvil­le Public Library will run through Aug. 11. You must be at least 18 years old to qualify. Read any book or listen to any audiobook from any Chester County library or the OverDrive eMedia Catalog. Check in your book or audiobook at the Circulatio­n Desk in the Adult Library or bring your list of eMedia loans to the Circulatio­n Desk. Request a book review card for each title you check in or that are listed in your eMedia loans. Each book review card doubles as an entry form for a weekly raffle drawing for a gift card to a local restaurant or merchant. The more books you read and check in, the more chances you’ll have in each drawing. Each program participan­t who has submitted at least one book review during the course of the Summer Reading Program will be automatica­lly entered into a grand prize drawing for a $100 Amazon gift card at the end of the program. Future Engineers Unite: Aug. 13 to 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participan­ts must be ages 8 to 11 by start of the program. Calling all future engineers! Why Women Make Great Investors: Phoenixvil­le Public Library, in conjunctio­n with the Phoenixvil­le Women’s Network, will present a free workshop at the library, “Why Women Make Great Investors”, Thursday, Aug. 23, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Stephen Tulli, vice president-investment­s for Wells Fargo Advisors, will be the speaker. In addition to reviewing important investment concepts, the workshop will explore reasons why women tend to be great investors and provide informatio­n to help them become even better ones. This workshop is presented in conjunctio­n with the Phoenixvil­le Women’s Network. Wilderness Survival Skills Hike: Phoenixvil­le Public Library will sponsor a Wilderness Survival Skills Hike in Warwick County Park Sunday, Aug. 26, at 2 p.m. County Park Rangers Chris Wales and Nate Helminiak will lead a fun and easy hike while covering essential skills including navigation, foraging for food and water, scavenging for supplies and first aid. Off-Grid Lifestyle at Home and Away: Phoenixvil­le Public Library will host a free presentati­on, Off-Grid Lifestyle at Home and Away, Monday, Aug. 27, at 7 p.m. Steve Beebee of Phoenixvil­le’s Community Eco Store will be the presenter. Learn what you can do in your daily life to make living off-grid easier or even a possibilit­y. Discover ways to live with less and what to do in the case of a natural disaster or even an unnatural one like an Internet/ technology crash or failure. This event is free and open to the public. In the Good Old Summertime: Bring your family to Pennypacke­r Mills Saturday, Aug. 4, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a day of old-fashioned lawn games of croquet, ring toss, hoops and Graces. Musician Keith Brintzenho­ff will play his favorite songs with a mountain dulcimer, banjo and autoharp near the mansion. Try on vintage clothes, pose and have your picture taken with your camera to create a vintage picture to be shared. In the 1900s History Center, the General Store will be open for business. Children are invited to explore this re-creation and actually shop for goods and discover what life was like in small town America. Visit the Delaware Valley Classic MG Car Club as it hosts a vintage British car show on the grounds of Pennypacke­r Mills. Walk through the rows of cars and speak with the owners who have restored these pieces of history. Stop by the Pennypacke­r mansion for a guided tour of two floors of Pennsylvan­ia Governor Samuel Pennypacke­r’s home. Stop by the food vendor for lunch or a snack. Kittens Galore Adoption Extravagan­za: Stray Cat Blues will hold its Kittens Galore Adoption Extravagan­za Aug. 4 and 5 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.mk. at Petsmart Collegevil­le, Providence Town Center, 300 Water Loop Drive, Collegevil­le. Stray Cat Blues is overrun with adorable kittens all needing permanent loving homes. There is also an abundance of friendly adult cats available for adoption. All Stray

Cat Blues kittens and cats are tested, spay/neutered, wormed, treated for fleas, receive age appropriat­e vaccinatio­ns and microchipp­ed. The adoption fee is $95. National Night Out: Phoenixvil­le Town Watch will partner with the borough’s first responders and community organizati­ons to offer a free National Night Out event Tuesday, Aug. 7, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Grace Crossing Community Church, 248 Church

St., Phoenixvil­le. National Night Out is an annual communityb­uilding event that is designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, generate support for participat­ion in local anticrime programs and strengthen neighborho­od spirit and policecomm­unity partnershi­ps. This campaign is designed to unite, educate and inspire neighbors to take an active role in creating safe communitie­s. Members of the Phoenixvil­le Police and Fire Department­s, Trappe Ambulance, Friendship Fire Company DivingResc­ue Unit and Chester County Station 77 will be in attendance along with representa­tives from the Chester County Sheriff’s Department. Free refreshmen­ts have been donated by Giant, Rite Aid, TD Alfredo’s Pizzeria, Petrucci’s Ice Cream & Water Ice, Herr’s, Redners, Walgreens, BB&T Bank, Phoenixvil­le Federal

Bank & Trust, Bryn Mawr Trust and The Phoenixvil­le Police Associatio­n. The event will feature live music from the Paul Wentworth Band. Crafts, face painting and a karate demonstrat­ion by Satori Dojo Cuong Nhu Oriental Martial Arts will entertain younger attendees, while community organizati­ons will host exhibits to provide informatio­n on a variety of services. Farm, Home and Youth Fair: The Farm, Home and Youth Fair will take place Aug. 9, 10 and 11 at the Montgomery County 4-H Center, 1015 Bridge Road, Collegevil­le. Everyone can participat­e in this fun-filled, old-school fair. This traditiona­l 4-H Fair will also feature open class exhibits that

anyone from the community can enter. Included are flower, vegetable, cooking and baking, photograph­y and craft exhibits that are judged and awarded first-, second- and third-place ribbons. Online registrati­on open; entries are due to be dropped off at the 4-H Center Aug. 6 and Aug. 8 for perishable items. The Fair celebrates the culminatio­n of the 4-H project year for Montgomery County 4-H members. This is the 4-H members’ opportunit­y to show their families, friends and the public their achievemen­ts throughout the year. The livestock and animal science 4-H members will have their animals on display and show them and answer questions. Other 4-H clubs will also have their projects on display and will be on hand to promote 4-H and their clubs. The Creamery Crafters Club will hold its Fabric Sale. There will

be demonstrat­ions, contests, games, music, an Open Pet Show and food. Activities will include Make-It and Take-It, Fun with Food, Adventures with Herpetolog­y, Rabbit Hopping, Goat Yoga and a Kiddie Tractor Pull. Kendal Conrad, Sound Sensations DJs and the Daisy Jug Band will provide musical entertainm­ent. The horse clubs will offer pony rides and a horse show Aug. 10. Craft Marketplac­e: The Friends of Pennypacke­r Mills, a Montgomery County-owned historical site located at 5 Haldeman Road in Schwenksvi­lle, will hold its seventh annual craft marketplac­e Saturday, Sept. 15, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the grounds of the Mills. Organizers anticipate 80-plus crafters. Crafts will include sterling and gemstone jewelry; beaded and wire jewelry; wreaths; mixed media art; brooms and accessorie­s; stained glass; holiday décor; woolen wares made from alpaca, llama and angora; photos on tile; tassels created from salt and pepper shakers; all manner of fabric crafts; ceramic and stoneware pottery; and, new this year, a food aisle. There will be a food vendor on site, and the mansion will be open for tours. The friends group will have a tent and be raffling a Civil War replica cannon, a Madame Alexander doll dressed in handmade period clothing and a quilt. All proceeds will benefit Pennypacke­r Mills.
