With a vast countertop and all the food and dry goods that such a store would sell, the experience gives children of all ages the opportunity to step back in time and explore daily life in the early 1900s. Kids can grind grain into flour, weigh dry bans and discover unusual tools on display and how they were used. Explore the various jobs that young boys held in the coal industry, and find out how coal is formed. Children are invited to become Breaker Boys and sort and size coal. Find out the jobs young girls held from menial work to factory jobs in big cities. Stop at the Pennypacker mansion for a free guided tour. Car Show: The Perkiomen Township Fire Company will hold its annual car show Aug. 26 at the Perkiomen Valley High School Campus, Route 29 and Trappe Road. Saint Mary Feast: Saint Mary Church, 40 Spring Mount Road, Schwenksville, will hold its Saint Mary Feast Saturday, Sept. 8, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 9, from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. Attendees can enjoy beer, wine and hors d’oeuvres in the church hall while mingling through raffle baskets and attic treasures. From 6 to 7 p.m. Sept. 8, accomplished pianist and musician Eric Longo will perform. Cost: $10 per person includes one drink and hors d’oeuvres. Sept. 9 will feature outdoor grilling with a variety of foods (Latin, Polish, Italian and American), carnival games, cotton candy, waffles and ice cream, a rock wall and Euro Jump, french fries, raffle baskets and more. Craft Marketplace: The Friends of Pennypacker Mills, a Montgomery County-owned historical site located at 5 Haldeman Road in Schwenksville, will hold its seventh annual craft marketplace Saturday, Sept. 15, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the grounds of the Mills. Organizers anticipate 80-plus crafters. Crafts will include sterling and gemstone jewelry; beaded and wire jewelry; wreaths; mixed media art; brooms and accessories; stained glass; holiday décor; woolen wares made from alpaca, llama and angora; photos on tile; tassels created from salt and pepper shakers; all manner of fabric crafts; ceramic and stoneware pottery; and, new this year, a food aisle. There will be a food vendor on site, and the mansion will be open for tours. The friends group will have a tent and be raffling a Civil War replica cannon, a Madame Alexander doll dressed in handmade period clothing and a quilt. All proceeds will benefit Pennypacker Mills. Carnival for a Cure: The sixth annual Carnival for a Cure will be held starting Thursday, Sept. 20, at Reeves Park in Phoenixville. The carnival is open Thursday, Sept. 20, from 5 to 9 p.m.; Friday, Sept. 21, from 5 to 9 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 22, from 1 to 9 p.m.; and Sunday, Sept. 23 from 1 to 5 p.m. The event will feature rides and games midway provided by AEB Amusements, food, free stage entertainment, vendors and raffles.
