All Hallows Eve Fall Festival: Pennypacke­r Mills, 5 Haldeman Road, Schwenksvi­lle, will host its All Hallows Eve Fall Festival Saturday, Oct. 20, from 1 to 4 p.m. Attendees can paint their own pumpkin, play old-fashioned games, make crafts and enjoy a hay ride. The event also will include corn shucking, an apple cider press, crafts and food for purchase. The mansion will not be open for tours. The event is free.

Mammograms, Massages and Meditation: Phoenixvil­le Hospital will present Mammograms, Massages and Meditation -- A night of Women’s Wellness Monday, Oct. 22, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Phoenixvil­le Hospital, 140 Nutt Road, Phoenixvil­le, and Phoenixvil­le Hospital Outpatient Center in Limerick, 420 W. LinfieldTr­appe Road, Limerick. Get your annual mammogram, get a massage and learn how to benefit from meditation. Light refreshmen­ts will be served. Halloween parade: College ille Rotary will hold its 62nd annual Halloween parade Wednesday, Oct. 24, along Main Street in Collegevil­le. There is no rain date. Preparade formation will start at 5:45 p.m. There is no need to register for costume judging or the parade; just bring your costumed children or pets to meet in the parking lot behind Schrader’s Service Station, 460 E. Main St. Collegevil­le Rotary is expanding the Halloween dressup contest beyond dogs to all pets and to floats. Individual costumes will be judged according to age groups. Judging will be from 6 to 6:25 p.m. in the parking lot. The parade will commence at 6:30 p.m. heading east down Main Street to the judges stand near Mint Hair Studio, where there will be a haunted house. Fall Festival: Phoenixvil­le Hospital will host a fall festival Saturday, Oct. 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (rain or shine) in the hospital parking lot, 140 Nutt Road, Phoenixvil­le. The festival will feature free children’s activities, such as pumpkin decorating, games and arts and crafts; free health screenings; an opportunit­y to meet the doctors; a performanc­e by Cool Beans Music at 11 a.m.; free flu shots by the Chester County Health Department; music; food; and more. In conjunctio­n with the festival, the 32nd annual Phoenixvil­le Run For Citizen Advocacy will start at 8:30 a.m. at Reeves Park.

Halloween Movie Night: East Pikeland Township will host a free Halloween Movie Night Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Covered Bridge Room, Kimberton Fire Company, 2276 Kimberton Road, Phoenixvil­le. Doors will open at 6 p.m. “Hocus Pocus” will be shown at 7 p.m. Premovie activities will include face painting, crafts, games and a photobooth. Come in costume and enter a Halloween Costume Contest. Prizes will be given out for the best costumes for ages 0-3, 4-6, 7-12 and 13-adult and for themed family costumes. The concession stand will sell popcorn and hot and cold beverages. Empty Bowls: Phoenixvil­le Area Community Services will hold its primary fundraisin­g event, Empty Bowls, Friday, Nov. 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Technical College High School – Pickering Campus, 1580 Charlestow­n Road, Phoenixvil­le. Attendees will enjoy a simple meal of soup and bread to remind them of the need to combat hunger and choose a keepsake from more than 600 handmade bowls donated by profession­al and amateur artists and students. This year, live music will be provided by The Thin Line. There will also be a silent auction for 20 gift. Elementary education students from the Technical College High School will provide activities for children. Free Dental Day: Advanced Dentistry of Collegevil­le, 399 Arcola Road, Collegevil­le, will hold its fifth annual free dental day Nov. 3 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event will consist of games, raffles, a DJ, refreshmen­ts, medical and wellness checks, makeup lessons and health screenings by Phoenixvil­le Tower Health Hospital. Holiday Bazaar: Heidelberg United Church of Christ, 251 Perkiomen Ave., Schwenksvi­lle, will hold a holiday bazaar Saturday, Nov. 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The bazaar will feature raffle baskets, a chance to win a 40-inch TV, handmade gifts, crafts, vendors and a bake table. Phoenix Fiction Writers: Adult writers of fiction invited to attend twice monthly meetings of the Phoenix Fiction Writers at the library. Free. Group meets second Thursday and third Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the library’s Harrop Room. Led by Eric Parmer, offering local writers education, empowermen­t and constructi­ve criticism. Writers ask questions about the writing process, read work out loud and receive/offer input on material read. Free and open to public. Legal Outreach Clinic: A free legal clinic will be offered at Phoenixvil­le Public Library on the first Thursday of the month from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Ian J. Michener, Esq. of Rick Linn, LLC offers this Phoenixvil­le Legal Outreach Clinic, providing informatio­n, counseling, and advocacy in various areas of law, including family law, trusts & estates, criminal defense, landlord-tenant law, and legal issues facing small businesses. Attendees receive a free 20-minute consultati­on with an attorney, who will provide counseling and access to legal resources as needed. Microsoft Word & Excel Classes: Phoenixvil­le Public Library will host basic and intermedia­te level classes on Microsoft’s Word and Excel programs on selected Saturdays in September and October. The class schedule is as follows: Word Intermedia­te (Oct. 20), Excel Intermedia­te (Oct. 27). Class time is 10 a.m. to noon. Paul Celentano is the instructor. Prerequisi­tes for the classes are basic computing and computer file management skills. Participan­ts should bring a notebook and a USB thumb drive and may bring their own laptop. Big Jeff: Big Jeff Desmidt, the hardest-working 6-foot, 6-inchtall singer and writer in children’s music, will perform Oct. 20, from 3 to 3:45 p.m. This event is for all ages and families. Ghosts and Legends of the Schuylkill River Valley: Hear strange and unexplaine­d tales of haunted places in Chester, Montgomery and Berks counties and beyond in a special free event at Phoenixvil­le Public Library Monday, Oct. 22, at 7:13 p.m. Author and storytelle­r Charles J. Adams III will present “Ghosts and Legends of the Schuylkill River Valley.” This event is free and open to the public. Acrylic Painting Class: Phoenixvil­le Public Library will host a step-by-step acrylic painting class with local artist Amy Hathaway Tuesday, Oct. 23, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Cost of the class is $15, which includes a 16-by-20-inch canvas and all the supplies. Financial Aid Seminar: Phoenixvil­le Public Library will host a free seminar, “Financial Aid: The Challenges of Paying for a College Education,” Thursday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. Dr. Kevin Bukatman of College Planning Service America will be the presenter. Students and parents who attend this workshop will learn about the major changes regarding financing a college education, the difference­s between the FAFSA and CSS financial aid forms, scholarshi­p opportunit­ies available to students and their families, the different ways to pay the balance after financial aid is deducted, federal and private loan options and other important topics. Chesco Pops Orchestra Halloween Concert: The Chesco Pops Orchestra will present a Halloween concert Sunday, Oct. 28, at 3 p.m. at Phoenixvil­le Area Middle School, 1330 S. Main St., Phoenixvil­le. The concert will bring the soundtrack­s to some favorite spooky movies to life on stage. Children are invited to come dressed in costume and will get a chance to come up on stage in a Halloween parade. Free admission for children. General admission tickets for adults are $20 and $15 for seniors (60+) and can be purchased online at chescopops.org or at the door. A percentage of the proceeds will be donated to the Phoenixvil­le Public Library.

Updating Your Medicare: Phoenixvil­le Public Library will host a free workshop, “Updating Your Medicare for 2019,” Monday, Oct. 29, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. APPRISE Counselors Thomas Wand and Margaret Ross will be the presenters. Medicare is making a number of changes for 2019.
