District to hold meeting on safety
PERKIOMEN >> Perkiomen Valley School District officials followed up on a letter they sent out to families March 14 concerning an unidentified individual.
The first letter sent out on March 14 stated an individual was spotted on March 12 entering the auditorium lobby at the middle school in the afternoon around 3 p.m. while professional development activities were still taking place. The school district said when the individual was asked to identify himself, he left the building and drove away. School personnel looked around the area but did not find anything unusual. State Police were notified.
The school district said in a second letter March 15 that the suspect who entered
Perkiomen Valley Middle School East on March 12 has been apprehended. The district said state police notified them that he is in custody for the school-related incident and other unrelated offenses. The district
did not have any additional information on the suspect.
“Many of you have shared your concerns and thoughts following this week’s incident, and so we want you to know that we will be reevaluating our procedures
and protocols with regard to locked/unlocked doors, considering what the best assignments may be for security personnel, reviewing/discussing timeliness of communication to the community about such incidents,
and other safety-related concerns,” read the letter sent out March 15 from Perkiomen Valley School District Superintendent Barbara Russell.
Russell wrote in the letter that the district will be addressing
the topic of school safety at a future Superintendent’s Round table on March 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school library.
Those interested in attending should RSVP to lweidner@pvsd.org.
