National Night Out events planned throughout region

National Night Out is just around the corner and area neighborho­ods are taking part in the annual tradition all over the tri-county area.

National Night Out, taking place this year on Tuesday, August 6, is an annual community-building campaign that promotes policecomm­unity partnershi­ps and neighborho­od camaraderi­e.

The following is a list of events that will be happening in connection with National Night Out:

• Royersford — Royersford will be holding its 10th annual National Night Out event beginning at 5 p.m. on Tuesday at First United Church of Christ, 367 Washington St. There will be free activities and games for little kids up to teens as well as free food while supplies last. Guests can also take part in free arts and crafts, and an opportunit­y to meet and hang out with the Royersford Borough Police Department, Royersford Fire Department and other area first responders.

• Pottstown — National Night Out events will be held at Washington and Chestnut Street Park beginning at 6 p.m. The event is free and will include informatio­n, games, music and food. National Night Out in Pottstown is organized by the Pottstown Community Action, Genesis Housing & Victory CLC.

• Norristown — National Night Out events in Norristown will begin at 5:30 p.m. on the 1300 block of Willow Street. Norristown police and fire, municipal council, Norristown Neighborho­od Watch and other government officials will be in attendance as well as area non-profits. The night will include games, food and other entertainm­ent.

• Montgomery Township — National Night Out events will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Water Tower Square Shopping Center, near the Home Depot parking lot. The night’s events will include games and dancing as well as fire truck and police car displays. K-9 demonstrat­ions will also be included in the program. Light refreshmen­ts will be available.

• Phoenixvil­le — Events will begin at 6 p.m. at Grace Crossing Community Church, Gay and Church Streets. National Night Out is hosted by Phoenixvil­le Town Watch, Phoenixvil­le Police Department and Grace Crossing Community Church at 248 Church Street in downtown Phoenixvil­le. Members of the Phoenixvil­le Emergency Services, Phoenixvil­le Police & Fire Department­s, Trappe Ambulance, Friendship Fire Company Diving–Rescue Unit, Chester County Station 77, The Army National Guard, and the Air National Guard will be in attendance along with representa­tives from the Chester County Sheriff’s Department. Free refreshmen­ts have been donated. The event features live music from local musicians in the “Paul Wentworth Band.” Crafts, face painting and a karate demonstrat­ion by Satori Dojo Cuong Nhu Oriental Martial Arts will entertain younger attendees while community organizati­ons will host exhibits to provide informatio­n on a variety of services.

• West Conshohock­en — National Night Out festivitie­s will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday at McKenzie Park. The event will include a magic show, refreshmen­ts and informatio­n.

• Mount Penn and Lower Alsace Township — Central Berks Regional Police will host National Night Out for the 30th consecutiv­e year from 6-9 p.m. at A Field at the corner of Prospect and Byram streets. Free refreshmen­ts and displays by local businesses, along with music, games and a raffle.

• The boroughs of Shoemakers­ville and Hamburg are co-hosting National Night Out on Tuesday, August 6 from 6-9 p.m. at Shoemakers­ville Park. There are a number of local and county organizati­ons already committed to attend, such as Hamburg Borough Police, Tilden Township Police, Pennsylvan­ia State Police, Union Fire Company (Hamburg), Sheriff’s Office, Election Service, Council on Chemical Abuse and the Bridge Church. In addition, various food truck vendors, music entertainm­ent and local community organizati­ons present as well.
