Area author to speak: Chester County author Bruce Mowday will speak on his new book, “Stealing Wyeth,” at Phoenixville Public Library on Monday, September 16 at 7:00 PM. Andrew Wyeth, one of the best known American artists in the world in the 20th century, was the victim of a theft from his Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, estate. Fifteen paintings, most by Andrew and his son Jamie, were taken one Saturday night. Today, those paintings would be worth millions of dollars. The FBI and Pennsylvania State Police were the investigating agencies. Were the paintings still in America or Europe or Asia? Were the paintings pre-sold and in a private collection, being stored for future sales or destroyed because the artwork was so well known? The search for the paintings takes the investigators throughout the United States and involves dangerous thieves, gamblers, drug dealers and murderers. In the process of tracking down the thieves and the paintings, hundreds of other crimes were solved. Stealing Wyeth was researched and written by Bruce Mowday, who covered the case as a newspaper reporter for the Daily Local News of West Chester. This event is free and open to the public. Reservations are required on the Adult Events Calendar at www. phoenixvillelibrary.org or by calling 610-933-3013 x132.
