“A Witch in Time: The European Witch Craze” will be presented on Monday, Oct. 28 at 7:00 PM. Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries was a world of wonders--the scientific causes for weather, accidents, and illness were unknown. Instead, catastrophes were attributed to the work of Satan and his minions, the witches. Thousands of accusations, trials, and executions for witchcraft swept over the continent. The world of wonders became a nightmare for many. Presenter Jaan Troltenier portrays a Scottish woman accused of being one of a circle of witches who tried to bring about the death of a king in 1589. She will discuss the European witch craze of 1560-1660: the factors that led to it, the accused, the accusers, and why women were the primary victims of the witch hunts. The program is suitable for ages 13+.
