Willis, Kane, O’Donnell named All-PSAC

Three Pioneer Athletic Conference alums were named to the All-PSAC women’s soccer teams on Thursday.

Indiana University of Pa. sophomore Mahogany Willis (Owen J. Roberts) was named to the PSAC West first team while Kutztown sophomore Gabby Kane (Spring-Ford) and Shippensbu­rg sophomore K.K. O’Donnell (Spring-Ford) were selected to the PSAC East second team.

Willis started all 19 games and had 15 goals and five assists for 35 points. She also had six game winner which led the PSAC West and is ranked 11th in NCAA Division II. Willis was a third team pick as a freshman after scoring 29 points on 14 goals and an assist with five game winners. The Crimson Hawks finished 10-9 overall and 8-8 in PSAC West play.

Kane finished the season with five goals, an assist and 11 points with a game winner to help the Golden Bears finish 11-7 overall and 9-7 in league play.

O’Donnell had three goals and four assists for 10 points with a game winner. The Raiders finished 8-10 overall and 6-10 in league contests.

Feeney and her Fairmont State women’s volleyball teammates are primed to compete in the Mountain East Conference Championsh­ip starting Thursday in Wheeling, W.Va.

Feeney, a 6-foot-3 redshirt junior middle hitter from Douglassvi­lle and a Daniel Boone graduate has led the Fighting Falcons to five straight league victories to wrap up the regular season including a 3-2 triumph over Notre Dame (OH) last Saturday in a home match in Fairmont, W.Va. Feeney had 14 kills and nine total blocks in the match. That gave the team a 16-14 overall record and 9-7 and in seventh place in the MEC.

On the season, she leads the team with 136.0 total blocks, attack percentage with a .329 mark and points with 415.0, is second in kills with 306 and has 50 digs and 25 service aces.

“Rebecca has had a nice season,” coach Courtney Materazzi said. “Her transition game this season has really pick up as our setters look for her consistent­ly to terminate balls.”

The coach feels that Feeney has cleaned up her offensive performanc­e as well.

“She ranks in the top 10 in the league in hitting percentage,” Materazzi said. “Overall, her stats speak for themselves.”

The 5-foot-4 senior midfielder scored a goal in each game as the Johns Hopkins field hockey team defeated Messiah 3-2 in the first round and Tufts 2-1 in the second round and will face Franklin & Marshall in the NCAA Division III semifinals Saturday in Baltimore, Md. McErlean was named to the Centennial Conference first team for the second straight season. She was a National Field Hockey Coaches Associatio­n Division III second team choice as a junior. She has scored 15 goals with five assists for 33 points with four game winners for the Blue Jays who take a 19-2 record into the semifinals.

The graduate student was named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Goalkeeper of the Year on Nov. 12 and she went out and showed that it was a good choice as she led the Jefferson women’s soccer team to the CACC title with pair of shutouts in the first two rounds and a 2-1 victory over Georgian Court last Sunday. That win earned the 15-5 Rams a berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament. Tinneny was 13-2 and gave up seven goals with 48 saves with nine shutouts.

The sophomore midfielder was named to the Patriot League third team after a solid season with the Loyola (Md.) women’s soccer team. Gallagher had a goal and an assist, the goal the game-winner in a 2-1 victory over Lafayette and the assist setting up the winning goal in a 3-1 triumph over American. The Greyhounds finished 7-7-5 and saw the season come to an end with a 1-1 tie with Navy in the league tourney semifinals on Nov. 8, the Midshipmen winning on penalty kicks.

The 6-foot-1 freshman earned a pair of awards after a big season with the Immaculata men’s soccer team. Fonder was named American East Conference Rookie of the Year and was a first-team selection after leading the 9-9-2 Mighty Macs to their first-ever league title with a 4-3 victory over Cabrini in the championsh­ip game on Nov. 9. He scored the third goal in the game on a penalty kick and led the team in goals with 10 and points with 21. He had three game winners.

The sophomore defender was a key performer on the Monmouth women’s soccer team, the Hawks finishing 14-2-3 overall after going 10-0-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play and winning the league tournament and played Brown in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last Saturday, the game ending in a 0-0 tie but Brown winning 4-1 on penalty kicks. Rossman had two goals and an assist with a game winner and helped the defensive limit foes to just four goals with 15 shutouts.

The senior was named to the American East Conference first team for her play with the Marywood field hockey team. She started all 20 games and finished with 12 goals and six assists for 30 points with four game winners. Senior Sara Sterchak (Methacton) was named to the second team. She had two goals and two assists and a team-high four defensive saves. The Pacers finished 16-4 after topping Wesley 2-1 in two overtimes to win the league title but dropping a 1-0 decision to FDUFlorham in the NCAA first round.

The junior from Pottstown was named to the Presidents’ Athletic Conference second team after a solid season with the Washington & Jefferson men’s soccer team. He finished with seven goals and seven assists for 21 points with two game-winners. He had an assist in a 2-1 victory over Grove City in the PAC semifinals and two goals in a 4-2 triumph over Geneva in the title game. The Presidents finished 12-8-4 and saw the season end with a 2-0 loss to John Carroll in the NCAA Division III Tournament last Saturday.

The senior saw her breakout season come to an end when the St. Joseph’s field hockey team was beaten 4-0 by No. 2-ranked Maryland in the first round of the NCAA Division I Tournament last Friday in Charlottes­ville, Va. Sayre had scored just one goal in her previous three seasons, but finished this season with six goals and two assists for 14 points and a game winner. The Hawks finished 17-4 and earned the NCAA berth by beating Richmond 1-0 in the Atlantic-10 Conference title game.
