‘A Literary Guitar Recital’ Experience some of the greatest stories of all time through music! Phoenixville Public Library will present “A Literary Guitar Recital” with classical guitarist Zachary Grim on Monday, Jan. 6, at 7:00 PM. Zachary Grim’s recital program will draw connections between the art forms of music and literature. The pieces in this program were inspired by works such as Edgar Allan Poe’s The Fall of the House of Usher, the plague-era collection of stories known as the Decameron, Spanish poetry by Joaquin Rodrigo, and Shakespeare’s Merry Wives of Windsor. Between pieces, Zachary explains how the narrative of each musical work reflects its literary counterpart. Audience members are encouraged to draw such connections during the concert program and these will be discussed during a short Q & A period after the concert. Zachary Grim enjoys a multifaceted career in performance, teaching, and research. His programs, which focus on the music of the 20th and 21st centuries, have led him to collaborate with a variety of venues and organizations such as the Newman Center for the Performing Arts, Society of the Cincinnati, Bethlehem Bach Choir, Walters Art Museum, Pennsylvania Sinfonia Orchestra, Allentown Band, and guitar societies on both the east and west coasts. This event is free and open to the public. Reservations are required on the Adult Events Calendar at www. phoenixvillelibrary.org or by calling 610-933-3013 x132.

The Phoenix Book Club, a book discussion group for adults, will meet next at Phoenixville Public Library on Monday, January 6 at 7:00 PM. The group will discuss Celeste Ng’s award-winning novel, Everything I Never Told You. By the author of Little Fires Everywhere, Ng tells the story of a ChineseAmerican family living in 1970s small-town Ohio. It is both a gripping pageturner and a sensitive family portrait, uncovering the ways in which mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, and husbands and wives struggle, all their lives, to understand one another. This event is free and open to the public. No reservations required. For more information, call 610933-3013 x132 or e-mail mpinto@ccls.org.
