Is the American presidency a killer job? In honor of Presidents’ Day, Robert Smith will present an overview of the health afflictions of our Chief Executives on Monday, Feb. 3, at 7:00 PM at Phoenixville Public Library. How did some presidents flourish despite their afflictions? Who were the sickest presidents? How were some presidents lucky enough to have any health at all (that is, which ones survived near-death experiences)? Find out at this fascinating presentation. Robert Smith (B.S. Chemistry, Loyola University; M.A. Medicinal Chemistry and M.B.A Corporate Finance, Temple University) is a retired Director of Corporate Strategy for GlaxoSmithKline, retired Editor-in-Chief for Dorland Healthcare Information, and retired Vice-president of Pharmaceutical Consulting Consortium International. The Phoenix Book Club will meet next at Phoenixville Public Library on Monday, Feb. 3, at 7:00 PM. The group will discuss Philip Roth’s bestselling novel, The Plot Against America. In an extraordinary feat of narrative invention, Philip Roth imagines an alternate history where Franklin D. Roosevelt loses the 1940 presidential election to heroic aviator and rabid isolationist Charles A. Lindbergh. Shortly thereafter Lindbergh negotiates a cordial “understanding” with Adolf Hitler, while the new government embarks on a program of folksy anti-Semitism. A copy of the book may be reserved at the Library or online at www. ccls.org. This program is free and open to the public. No reservations required. For more information, call 610933-3013 x132 or e-mail mpinto@ccls.org.

Rebekah Foster is a parttime Circulation Desk Assistant at Phoenixville Public Library. She has been actively supporting the LGBT community for years, and served her high school GSA (GayStraight Alliance) as Vice President her junior year and President her senior year.
