Borough extends closure of Bridge Street to help downtown businesses

The borough council has agreed to extend the temporary openair permit setup on Bridge Street to go beyond Oct. 5.

The council will assess further dates on a monthly basis going forward, officials announced.

Borough council and staff have been working with downtown businesses to allow for additional outdoor capacity with the weekend closure of Bridge Street for the temporary open-air permit setup.

The expanded temporary open-air outdoor setup will allow for a greater outdoor capacity for the borough’s downtown businesses, according to officials.

“We want to give our business owners every opportunit­y we can to help in the recovery of business lost due to COVID-19, and by allowing the businesses to extend into the street for a few more weeks, we hope that it will be of some help to them,” said Borough Manager E. Jean Krack.

“We hope that the temporary outdoor permit setup has and will assist in a positive economic impact to our businesses,” added borough council President Jonathan

M. Ewald.

Starting Thursday, Oct. 8, participat­ing businesses outdoor permit hours will conclude one hour earlier at 9 p.m.

On the first weekend of the extended closure schedule, Columbus Day weekend, it is important to note that the schedule of temporary open-air setup hours will be:

• Thursday, Oct. 8 – 4 pm

– 9 pm

• Friday, Oct. 9 – 7 am – 9 pm

• Saturday, Oct. 10 – 7 am – 9 pm

• Sunday, Oct. 11 – 7 am – 9 pm

• Monday, Oct. 12 – 7 am – 9 pm

Road will reopen to traffic on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 7 a.m

The road closure times are as follows: Thursdays at 2 p.m. toMondays at 7 a.m., unless otherwise noted, and the closure roads will remain the same also.
