WESTCHESTER » State Sen. Andy Dinniman marked Juvenile Justice Week by recognizing the contributions of local law enforcement officials who are working to make a difference in the lives of young people.

“Juvenile Justice is a community effort and very often positive change starts with our local law enforcement officers who take a special interest in working with and reaching out to our children, teens, and young people,” said Dinniman, who serves as minority chair of the Senate Education Committee. “Whether it’s a police officer, a sheriff’s deputy, a social worker, juvenile probation officer, or a volunteer, wewant to thank thosewho give their time and energy to mentoring at-risk youth and inspiring them to make safe, healthy, and productive life choices.”

Dinniman recently joined Laurie Shannon-Bailey of the Coatesville Area Juvenile Justice Alliance (CAJA) in recognizing Corporal Stanley McDaniel of the Chester County Sheriff’s Office with a special Senate citation in honor of his work with young people.

McDaniel, who served with the Philadelphia Fire Department for more than two decades before joining the Chester County Sheriff’s Office, was honored with CAJA’s Commitment to Our Youth Award. He was recognized with the award for his outreach efforts with Sanji-Strong, a West Chester youth group.

According to Shannon-Bailey, in honor of Juvenile Justice Week, this week CAJA is presenting a series of virtual events, including discussions and forums with local and state officials on community policing, restorative justice, career training, and mental health resources. They are expected to be available via the organization’s Facebook page.
