U.S. women win Pan Am Indoor Cup

U.S. beats Canada, 3-0, in gold medal game as local Sessa earns tournament’s Top Female Player award

The United States Women’s National Indoor field hockey team capped off the Pan American Indoor Cup with a gold medal Sunday, June 28 at The Training Center in Spring City.

Led by two goals and an assist from Hope Rose (Dauphin, Pa.), the U.S. knocked off Canada, 3-0, in the gold medal game to secure its spot in the Internatio­nal Hockey Federation Indoor World Cup, which will take place Feb. 2-6, 2022 in Liège, Belgium

The U.S. women finished the competitio­n a 4-1 record, tallying wins against Guyana, Canada and Uruguay and drawing Argentina in round robin play.

Ashley Sessa (Schwenksvi­lle, Pa.) had eight goals during the tournament to take home Top Female Player of the Tournament award.

She had a five-goal performanc­e in a 20-2 victory over Guyana to open competitio­n. She scored the team’s first goal off an assist from Rose three minutes into Sunday’s gold-medal game.

Boyertown grad Ali Campbell won her second Indoor Pan Am gold, also helping the team to a first-place finish and World Cup appearance in 2017. She scored a goal in the team’s 3-3 draw with Argentina.

The U.S. men’s team finished just short of gold and FIH World Cup qualifying. They finished competitio­n with a 2-3 mark, falling 4-2 to Argentina in Sunday’s final.
