Voters split ticket in Methacton School Board race

Voters split their preferences in the Methacton School Board election, according to unofficial results.

Montgomery County encountered some difficulties with counting write-in ballots, driven largely by an earlier printing error that caused some ballots to be returned that had one side blank. As of Sunday, 97 ballots county-wide remained uncounted.

There were only 17 write-in votes in the Methacton race.

Unless all 97 of the uncounted votes went to Republican Jessica Bradbury, which is statistically very unlikely, the results of the election seem to be set.

That result is two Republicans, one incumbent Democrat and a candidate who ran on both the Republican and Democratic ballot lines are the winners of the four open seats.

It was the candidate with both lines, Jennifer Cancro, who won the most votes, with 5,741, according to unofficial results.

The second highest number of votes went to Republican Marissa Ruggiero Rocco, who replaced Joe Rittenhouse on the ballot after Rittenhouse, who won a Republican line in the spring primary, withdrew from the race. She won 5,450 votes

Next to win a seat was incumbent Elizabeth Drummond, currently the vice president of the school board, who appeared on the Democratic ballot line and won 5,437 votes according to unofficial results.

The fourth open seat went to Greg Young, who ran on the Republican line and won 5,369 votes.

Close on his heels was Bradbury, who won 5,347 votes.

The other two candidates edged out were Christine Steere, who collected 5,234 votes and Ralph Navarrete, who won 5,189 votes. Both those candidates appeared on the Democratic ballot line.

Turnout in the election was relatively high for an off-year. According to Montgomery County, 10,505 votes were cast out of 25,057, which works out to a voter turn-out of nearly 42 percent.
