J.P. Mascaro contributes $1M for education scholarships
Donations support schools, education organizations
J.P. Mascaro & Sons is donating $1 million in donations to more than 100 tuitionbased elementary and secondary schools and organizations that support education.
The waste service company based in Lower Providence, Montgomery County, made contributions to 59 qualifying schools and organizations in Berks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery Bucks and Philadelphia counties. Additional donations were made to schools and organizations in the Delaware Valley, Lehigh Valley and Scranton area.
According to Bill Fox, director of government affairs for J.P. Mascaro & Sons, the company has been making contributions for at least the last 15 years.
The funds, he said come from J.P. Mascaro & Sons and its affiliated entities.
“We have been successful in meeting our business projections, which enable us to meet our philanthropic projections as well,” he said.
Donation amounts range from $1,000 up to $30,000, Fox said, adding that the overriding criteria for qualifying for a contribution is need.
Fox said the founder of J.P. Mascaro & Sons had limited education, “but had a strong appreciation for the importance of education as it relates to children and their future.”
Company President Pat Mascaro has the same philosophy, Fox explained.
“Our company is in the position that we can, and quite frankly he feels we should make these sorts of contributions because as a company we have been very fortunate,” Fox said.
In a press release announcing the contribution, Mascaro said his family was grateful to be able to continue the practice of providing opportunities at schools “for individuals worthy of and in need of assistance.”
“Our employees and our customers make it possible to achieve our ongoing goals of being a ‘true friend’ in the community.” the release stated.
