It turns out there will be a contest in Pennsylvania’s 146th House District after all — and it will be a rematch.

Although there was no Republican candidate on the ballot in the May primary, former Limerick Township supervisor Thomas Neafcy won enough votes as a write-in candidate to clinch the Republican nomination.

According to Montgomery County’s certified primary results, Neafcy earned 973 out of 1,326 write-in votes cast.

Neafcy, who did not seek reelection as a township supervisor, will once again face Democratic incumbent Joe Ciresi, who was unopposed for the Democratic nomination and collected 4,895 votes in the primary.

The two faced off in 2020 and Ciresi beat Neafcy by 4,975 votes out of 36,448 votes cast.

Ciresi, running for his third term, is a former Spring-Ford School Board member.

According to a release from his campaign, “Tom brings over 35 years of public service and experience to the race. He has served as a volunteer on every committee in Limerick Township and also was elected to the board of supervisors, serving 21 years. Tom has an outstanding record of leadership during the time he served the Limerick community, with a philosophy of honesty, integrity and compassion.”

His campaign release noted Neafcy “is very concerned about the state of our economy in the Commonwealth and the failed policies of Harrisburg and our current representative. He sees our families struggling to make ends meet and the rising costs our citizens must endure every day.”

“I will work tirelessly to lower energy and healthcare costs, support parents’ right to school choice, and give parents a greater voice in their children’s education. Also, I will fight for property tax relief and will work to help residents with their concerns and issues,” Neafcy said in his press release.

“We cannot trust our current leadership and the direction they have taken our community and state,” Neafcy said in his release. “They have failed us miserably and we need a new direction.”
