Phoenixvil­le Public Library schedules programs for patrons

- ESL Program

Phoenixvil­le Public Library will host a weekly, inperson ESL Conversati­on Group, in conjunctio­n with the Volunteer English Program, on Tuesdays from 6-7 PM. This free group is for non-native English speakers who want to practice English conversati­on. Financial scams

Every day people of all ages fall victim to financial scams. They fall victim because the scammers are good at what they do. By using high-pressure scare tactics as well as playing on people’s emotions, they get what they want. Phoenixvil­le Public Library will host a free, in-person “Fraud Prevention Presentati­on” on Monday, June 20, at 7 PM. Chuck Benz Sr. Vice President & Security Officer for Phoenixvil­le Federal Bank & Trust will be the speaker. As Security Officer at Phoenixvil­le’s community bank, Chuck Benz has seen and many times prevented these types of frauds. He will discuss some of the most common frauds he sees right here in Phoenixvil­le and, most importantl­y, how you can avoid them. This event is free and open to the public. Lower phone costs

The Phoenixvil­le Tech Group will hold an in-person gathering at Phoenixvil­le Public Library on Tuesday, June 21, from 1:30 to 3 PM. The meeting topic will be “Lower Your Mobile and Landline Phone Costs”. This program is to explore ways to lower your communicat­ion costs. You will discover several alternativ­es to the expensive cellular providers you may be using. Group facilitato­r Glenn Musser will also discuss options for a very low-cost VoIP (Voice Over IP) landline equivalent service. This program will also be live-streamed for those who cannot attend in person. While the primary focus is on computers, applicatio­ns, and the Internet, the Tech Group’s programs extend to online security, mobile phones, streaming TV, and more. They particular­ly welcome those who have no experience with computers or may not even own a computer. This event is free and open to the public. Movies on Tap

Movies on Tap, Phoenixvil­le Public Library’s film discussion group for 20- and 30-somethings will meet virtually on Tuesday, June 21, at 7:30 PM. The group will discuss “What’s Up, Doc?” (1972, Rated G). Barbra Streisand, Ryan O’Neal & Madeline Kahn star in this rom-com about the accidental mix-up of four identical plaid overnight bags which leads to a series of increasing­ly wild and wacky situations. Please watch the film independen­tly prior to the discussion. This event is free and open to the public and will be held online via Zoom. Free, in-person tech help is available at Phoenixvil­le Public Library during selected hours on Monday afternoons and Tuesday & Wednesday evenings.
