Historic Yellow Springs Art Show celebrates 50th anniversar­y

The 50th Annual Historic Yellow Springs Art Show in Chester Springs will feature 227 artists and more than 4,000 works of original art including 2-D and 3-D works with a wide range of media and pricing.

Free and open to the public for two weeks, the 50thannive­rsary celebratio­ns kick off with a ticketed party on Friday, April 28, followed by the Art Show from April 29 through May 14 in the Lincoln Building from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

Artwork is on display in all the first and secondfloo­r galleries. The wellknown “minis” will again be found in the 2nd-floor mini gallery. Artists’ portfolio pieces of unframed originals and prints will also be on both floors.

This year’s annual poster competitio­n winner is Monique Sarkessian of Monique Sarkessian Fine Art Gallery and Studio in Malvern. Her work, “Where Your Glory Dwells 149,” is featured on this year’s catalog, postcards, billboards, invitation­s and flyers.

The colorful alcohol ink painting depicts the vibrant azaleas in the courtyard and gardens of The Washington Building at Historic Yellow Springs. The original poster painting will be sold by silent auction in The Lincoln Building galleries.

the village, watch live pot- tery demonstrat­ions, take a history walk to learn about the 300 years of Yellow

Springs Village, and enjoy live music.

“A heartfelt thank you to all of our sponsors — without their support, the Art Show would not be possible,” organizers said in the release. “This is Historic Yellow Springs’ largest fundraiser of the year and a large portion of the proceeds benefit arts, education, historic preservati­on and the environmen­tal protection of the historic village of Yellow Springs.”

With a focus on history, art, education and the environmen­t, the mission of Historic Yellow Springs, Inc. is to share, preserve and celebrate the unique living village of Yellow Springs which consists of six historic structures and three 19th-century bathhouses on a property of 140 acres with large portions preserved through conservati­on easements with Natural Lands Trust.

Historic Yellow Springs is home to Chester Springs Studio, an arts center that hosts classes, workshops and exhibition­s in the visual arts. Events are held year-round, including the Yellow Springs Art Show, Fine Arts and Crafts Show, HYS Members Show, Town Tours and Village Walks, Jazz at the Springs and HYS Holiday Stroll. Historic Yellow Springs is located at 1685 Art School Road, Chester Springs.
