Parks system veteran gets nod as top manager
A longtime veteran of the Chester County parks system has been pegged to lead the county’s efforts in trails and parks management.
County Parks and Preservation Director David Stauffer announced the appointment of Andrew McMullen as the county’s new parks and trails manager. McMullen moves to this role following 22 years with the department starting as a part-time maintenance worker, becoming a regional park ranger and later, serving as the assistant parks and trails manager.
“Andrew’s strong leadership qualities and enthusiasm for connecting visitors with our Chester County parks and trails make him a great fit for the position,” said Stauffer.
As the parks and trails manager, McMullen is responsible for the day-today management and operations of the county’s seven regional park sites and the three regional trails. McMullen succeeds Owen Prusack, who retired in November after 41 years with the county.
“I have always been proud to offer the community exceptional parks and trails,” said McMullen. “I look forward to the opportunity to continue doing so in the role of parks and trails manager.”
McMullen is a graduate of Penn State University with a bachelor of science degree in agricultural education. He served as a sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corps from 2000 to 2006 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. While deployed, he worked with local governments to build community infrastructure and obtain supplies for schools.
The county parks and preservation department provides preservation, recreation, educational, and stewardship services to the residents and visitors in the county so they can connect with natural and cultural resources and thrive in a sustainable healthy community.
