• What was over 10 feet tall, weighted 4 to 6 tons, lived near Lake Maxinkucke­e some 12,000 years ago, and is known as Opal? Come and hear John Benedict’s fascinatin­g account and see pictures of the discovery of the Mastodon that once called his farm home. Presented by the Antiquaria­n & Historical Society of Culver at 10 a.m. at the Culver Public Library.

• Landscape Pastel Art Workshop will take place at the Gallery from 10-4 to create ’Summer Splendor’. Cathy Mccormick is President of the Northern Indiana Pastel Society, she will lead the workshop to create the vibrant summer landscape in the popular medium of soft (dry) pastels. A supply list is available upon registrati­on or by emailing Cathy at canccorm@aol. com. Bring a sack lunch or buy from the cafe next door. Cost is $55 and register by Aug. 20. Minimum of 5 students. • Today the monthly Our Health Talk takes place at the Life Enrichment Center/ Marshall County Council on Aging, 1305 W. Harrison St., Plymouth. The topic this month will be Shingles. Ellen Jenning of Interim Healthcare will be the presenter. This presentati­on is at 11:30 a.m. and is free.

Come to the market this week and check out all of the bounties of Summer. Vendor line up varies but you can always count on fresh produce, flowers, local farm-raised beef and pork products, honey, fresh eggs, jams and jellies, hook rugs, artisan jewelry, crafts, bird houses, high quality corn hole boards, baked goods, Lions Club portable breakfasts (Saturdays) and Taco Truck (Tuesdays).

• Genealogy LIVE! meets from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the computer lab at the Culver-union Township Public Library. All ages and research levels are welcome, and assistance is available.questions? • Saint Joseph Health System is offering free blood pressure screenings at Bremen Public Library from 9:15-10:00 a.m. on the first Wednesday of each month. On Wednesday, Sept. 4, a free blood sugar screening will also be offered during this time. For best results, do not eat anything 4-6 hours prior to the screening. No appointmen­t needed.
