Red Hat Sweet 16

- CONTENT PROVIDED BY JANICE DAVIS

Sixteen years ago my dear friend, Janell Wilson, encouraged me to join the International Red Hat Society. Wow, we had no idea what was in store for us! It was decided that I would join as a Queen and start a registered local chapter in Knox, Indiana. Since I strongly believe that we are surrounded by Angels, it was a logical choice to call our chapter “The Angels in Red”. Not long afterwards, an Indiana Ambassador to the RHS noticed how our chapter was spreading positive vibes throughout our community and beyond! She contacted our Hatquarters in Fullerton, California and recommend that I become an Ambassador as well! I humbly accepted the honor and have done my best to promote our wonderful society to ladies of all ages. Janell and I truly had no idea that we would meet so many great gals, travel to so many events (in state and out of state), the events and forums are endless. The greatest part is, you can participate as little as you want or as much as you can!!! We have a few guidelines, but no rules to follow. Our chapter has been in practically every parade in the area, often winning a First Place Trophy for our outstanding/exciting/ colorful entries. As an individual chapter we enjoy getting involved with local charities on a monthly basis.

Did I mention we enjoy eating out?

One of our slogans says, “EAT DESSERT FIRST”.

We now have mem

bers in many communities:

Knox, South Bend, St. Joseph, Mich., Plymouth, Bremen, Culver, Hamlet, Donaldson, Bourbon, Lakeville, Laporte, Granger, Chesterton, Warsaw, Tippecanoe, and North Liberty.

Hence, we have become known as a North Central Indiana Chapter.

We pay a small yearly fee to be an Official Stand Proud Member, giving us access to great ladies, and events world wide, often forming lifetime friendships. We wear red hats and purple clothing proudly, our gals under 50 wear pink hats and lavender clothing.

I want to send out a special thanks to the wonderful, caring, and loving gals in our chapter. Throughout these 16 years I have been given endless support and love that has helped me get through some pretty crazy moments, I only hope that I have been able to return as much as I have received. I must also extend my sincere gratitude to many of the friends that I have made through my fortunate travels and even through Facebook, you don’t always need to meet face-toface to form a special bond.
