One bid opened for County Morgue project
There was one bid opened for the county morgue project at Sept. 21 meeting of the Marshall County Commissioners. That bid was from R. Yoder Construction, located in Nappanee.
Commissioner President Kevin Overmyer stated that the design for the morgue was from an engineering firm, Barr Design Group, located in Goshen.
County Attorney James Clevenger opened the bid and said that the appropriate documents were inside along with a bid bond.
The amount of the bid was $271,530.
The bid includes not only the proposed 64 foot by 40 foot building, but also a storage unit inside the morgue that will be 24 foot by 40 foot. The project also includes a small parking area.
“That doesn’t include the components inside,” County Coroner John Grolich stated. Those components include items like office furnishing and supplies.
Clevenger asked the contractor, Jason Yoder, if he was aware that there was a time constraint on the project. The morgue project is being reimbursed with CARES Act funding that expires at the end of the year. Yoder said that the company was aware of that fact.
Clevenger then stated that his original advice to the Commissioners would be to take the bids under advisement, review them, then approve one based on the coroner’s recommendation. However, there was only one bid that was turned in.
“You might want to approve it conditioned upon review to make sure everything is in order and if it is get it started since time’s of the essence,” Clevenger said.
The Commissioners approved a motion to accept the bid from R. Yoder Construction and to allow the president of the board to sign the construction contract.
