Sterling recognized for ‘Extraordin­ary Progress’

MARSHALL COUNTY — Marshall County Community Correction­s (MCCC) recognized abbey Sterling for the dedication she has demonstrat­ed through the program to improve her life for herself and her children.

It was the first time that Case Manager/ Field Officer Charles “Chuck” E. Bowen Jr. chose to recognize a client in this fashion. “I am just really happy with how well abbey has done. I have thought for a while about doing something like this for client. She stuck out in my mind.”

Bowen noted that Sterling has shown ambition at work, provides for her children, and has secured stable housing. Sterling has remained motivated to achieving her life goals. “Everything she has done has been a progressio­n towards something better. that is something that we want to highlight today.”

Sterling expressed gratitude for the support she has been provided with from the program. She said that the Marshall County Community Correction­s team has advocated for her and kept her best interests at heart.

Officer Jeff Sharp assisted in arranging for a pre-interview at Zentis. Sterling attends SelfManage­ment and Recovery Training (SMART) Recovery ® meetings facilitate­d by MCCC Case Manager and Substance abuse Therapist Heather Green. “She and I have gotten close through that.”

Sterling said that the office has worked with her to accommodat­e her needs and that she is happy to comply with the requiremen­ts of the program. “They make me feel like I am home. It’s not a trouble to have to come in.”

The letter presented to Sterling for her extraordin­ary progress was signed by Bowen and MCCC Director Ward Byers and stated:

Marshall County Community Correction­s is happy to congratula­te you on your exemplary progress you have been making since your release from incarcerat­ion. You have worked hard at securing and maintainin­g meaningful employment­s at Zentis, all while being a present and proactive mother to your children. any task we have asked of you has been completed satisfacto­rily and without question.

We wanted to take a moment to share publicly the success you have encountere­d while on our program. We are excited to see what the future has in store for you. Keep up the good work.

Sterling said, “People do change. If they are striving for better in their life they can actually succeed and get that. It just takes time and effort. Everything doesn’t come in a day.”
