Another tough test for Triton

- By Rusty Nixon SPORTS EDITOR

BOURBON - There is no rest for Triton’s Trojans (3-3) as a meat grinder middle of the schedule has them facing a very dangerous opponent again this week in Knox.

A loss a week ago was one that got away at North Judson.

“We definitely had our chances,” said Triton boss Rodney Younis. “I thought we played a good game, Unfortunately, you have to take care of the football and that was an area of weakness for us Friday night and that was the difference in the game.”

A pair of fumbles - one for a score and the other giving the Bluejays the ball inside the 10 - were the Trojans undoing.

“It’s a focus for us to take care of the football,” said Younis. “It’s a learning process. We talked to them about the fact they are going to make rookie mistakes and you need to learn from it and don’t repeat that again.”

With half of Judson’s points coming on offensive mistakes, Younis is happy with his defensive effort against a high powered offense averaging over 33 points a game.

Our defense played really well,” he said. “We had a couple of situations third and long where we didn’t cover the pass particularly well and it put them in good position. Overall our defense throughout the year has played pretty well.”

The good news for the Trojans is that Knox (3-4) will have to come to Bourbon.

“We are fortunate that the next two weeks we are going to be at home,” said Younis. “We were well aware that our conference was going to be loaded this year and there weren’t any breaks. It’s a matter of stepping up to the challenge.”

“They (Knox) are a solid team on both sides of the ball and we have to have our ‘A’ game if we are going to win.”

There is nothing fancy about the Redskins offense. They will line up and come right at you.

“They will try a variety of formations on you but it’s going to be the same result,” said Younis. “The plays are similar but they give you different looks. It all starts upfront for them. They have big physical linemen and it’s going to be important that we do our best to control the line of scrimmage.”

Knox showed some susceptibility to the pass. It’s an area the Trojans have seen improvement.

“We have tried to throw the ball a little bit more,” said Younis. “I thought we showed some improvement in the passing game. Our goal is always to try to be as balanced as we can be but stay within ourselves.”

“We want to be competitive,” he said. “We want to be sure that we are doing our best on every single play. When we watch the film we want to make sure that our hustle is there and that we are flying to the ball.”

“Offensively we want to sustain our blocks. We have to be sure that we aren’t giving up on those blocks, we’re fighting to maintain those blocks and to create holes.”
