Plymouth School Board meets; no action taken on master contract

The Plymouth School Board met for 35 minutes on Tuesday, Oct. 6 for a regular meeting and a public meeting concerning the Master Contract with the PEA ( Plymouth Education Association).

The board took no action on the Master Contract, but will consider adoption of it at the Nov. 3 meeting. Speaking to the work that teachers perform, board member Larry Pinkerton said, “I take my hat off and thank them 100%.” The contract includes an increase pay for teachers who qualify, compensation for extra teaching duties, and an increase in the insurance contribution. Board President, Todd Samuelson said, “We can never do enough; but I am pleased with what we can do.”

Superintendent Andy Hartley said the enrollment at the September state count day was 3,375. The state count students two times each year. Hartley said the current enrollment is down 10 students from the February count. The official enrollment includes both students attending classes in person as well as those receiving instruction virtually.

The board voted unanimously to adopt the 2021 budget, capital projects and bus replacement. They had held a budget workshop and public hearing on all three in meetings earlier this year.

Hartley said he is in daily communication with the Marshall County Health Department concerning updates on the COVID pandemic. He also indicated that they will be holding a clinic for employees who want to have a flu shot.

The Nov. 3 board meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m.
