Lady Lancers fall to Rochester

BREMEN — Rochester managed to outduel Laville in key statistics and came away with a 3-0 victory Saturday at Bremen High School.

Laville scored the first point in each of the first two sets as Allison Medors notched a kill and an ace to open the scoring early.

Rochester, however, used an array of smartly placed tip kills to outscore Laville and jump to an 8-2 lead. Lucy Sherk ended a Zebra scoring run with a nicely placed kill, but the Lancers could not make an offensive scoring run until a stretch of kills by Medors and strong net play by Olivia Goze narrowed the lead to 24-14. Rochester would take set one on a deep attack by the Lancers.

Medors started the second set with an ace and the two squads went back and forth early on. The combination of a kill by Abby Goffinet and strong net play by Goze and Sherk kept Laville within 6-5. A 7-0 The Zebras, however, were able to pull away.

Laville will graduate Beehler, Medors, Sydney Coblentz, Rebecka Bower, Alaina Kertai, and Zoey Thomas.

Laville closed the 2020 season with a 14-13 record. Rochester, meanwhile, went on to defeat Bremen, 3-0, in the sectional championship. The Zebras will take a 16-7 record to the Class 2A Laville Regional on Saturday.
