- BY JAMES MASTER ASSISTANT EDITOR

MARSHALL COUNTY — The sick bank was the source of discussion at Monday’s Marshall County Commissioner’s meeting. The Sick Bank Board met on Oct. 7 and sent on a recommendation to the commissioners that employee’s donate zero days to remain enrolled in the sick bank for the 2021 year.

Currently, to remain enrolled in the County Sick Bank, employees must donate two sick days into the bank at the beginning of the new year.

“In 2020, 106 bank days were used and 14 were collected. The projected balance of the Sick Bank at the end of 2020 will be 1,123. The Sick Bank also recommends that all newly joining employees follow the established guidelines and donate the required two days to become a member,” said Jenny Bennitt.

The Sick Bank Board is comprised of Sharon Dotta, Rhonda Ferguson, and Matt Hassel.

The commissioners approved the recommendation.

The commissioners opened bids for the

Marshall County Farm Ground lease. The farm ground located near Shady Rest is sent out to bid every three years. This time there were three bids that were submitted for the 161 approximate acres.

The first bid was from Robin Roberts for a total of $188.50 per acre. The second was from Diana and Zachary Schrock for a bid of $257.50 per acre. The last bid opened was from KSF Farms that bid a total of $203 per acre.

The bid from Schrock farms for $257.50 per acre was accepted by the commissioners.

Building and Grounds Maintenance Supervisor Doug Masterson is looking at potentially purchasing a building for the purpose of storing Maintenance Department equipment. He asked the commissioners for permission to have the building appraised.

County Attorney Jim Clevenger reminded Masterson that two appraisals need to be obtained and that the county cannot bid higher than the average of the two.

Currently, the department is renting the garage on the east side of the County Building. “Most of our equipment is sitting outside,” Masterson said. During the winter, the equipment is moved to the EMA building.

The department currently pays $500 each month for rent.

Masterson wasn’t sure what the asking price of the building was for sure. He had heard that the owner wouldn’t sell for less than $38,000. The location of the property is 716 North Plum Street.

The commissioners made a motion to have the county attorney contact two appraisers to perform appraisals on the location.

The commissioners approved two requests for grant applications from the county prosecutor, 2021 JAG Grant and the Drug Free Community Grant, as well as two grant applications from the county coroner, IPEP Grant and ISDH SUID/SDY Grant.
