A pre-thanksgiving treat? HS boys bball starts tonight

- By Ron Haramia Sports Writer

Tonight is the unofficial official start to the high school boys basketball season. Typically, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving has a full slate of games involving area teams, although the first games could have been played as early as Monday according to the IHSAA calendar.

Here are capsule previews for the boys and girls contests scheduled for tonight and Saturday. Hopefully, these games that are still on at the time of this writing will actually be played as planned. That would be something to be thankful for. Look for our in-depth boys basketball previews next week.

Wed. watches

Glenn @ Plymouth

(boys)

These two have started the season against each other the past five years with Glenn winning for the first time in the series, 64-45, last November. The Falcons ended 14-9 a year ago, while the Pilgrims were 6-17.

Bremen @ Argos (boys) One of Bremen’s six wins last year was a 60-42 season-opening victory over the Dragons. This game pits first- year Bremen coach Matt Miller against

Gordon Mosson, now in his 32nd year overall and seventh at Argos.

Culver @ Rochester

(boys)

This is Kyle Evans’ debut as the Culver head coach and his seventh year overall (the past three at North Judson). The Cavaliers lost by 20 at home against the Zebras in last year’s season opener.

Laville @ Westville

(boys)

Laville’s game with Westville has been postponed until Jan. 8 so the Lancers’ season opener now will be at Bremen on Dec. 3.

Oregon-davis @ Triton (boys)

These two have opened the season against each

other the past 16 seasons, but that string will be snapped this year thanks to COVID. Triton will now open at Plymouth on Dec. 1, while O-D will begin at South Central on Dec. 4.

CGA @ North Miami (girls)

CGA’S game at North Miami was originally

scheduled for tonight, but has been postponed until Dec. 19.

Saturday showdowns

Plymouth @ New Prairie (boys)

A Pilgrim-cougar contest has been the second game of the boys season for Plymouth the past five years and, like the season-opening Glenn series, last year was the first time New Prairie came away with a win (46-29) during that time. NP finished .500 last season (13-13).

South Central @ Glenn (girls)

A visit from South Central ( 3- 2) will be Glenn’s (3-2) first game in 11 days. The No. 6 (Class 2A) Lady Satellites are looking to snap a twogame losing streak. South Central’s semi-state bound team defeated the Lady Falcons by 17 last year at home.

Laville @ CGA (girls) This game was rescheduled and hopefully, will actual take place Saturday at Culver Academy. The Lady Eagles (2-0) won by six a year ago, just one of its

three victories for the season. Laville was scheduled to play its first game in 17 days last night at Elkhart Christian Academy.

Argos @ Tippecanoe

Valley (girls)

If this game is played

it will be Argos’ ( 0- 3) first game in 18 days. Tippecanoe Valley ( 2- 1) already has two impressive wins - versus Bremen and over Class 2A No. 6 South Central. It has been 11 days since the Lady Vikings have taken the court. TV is

new to the Lady Dragons’ schedule this year.

Triton @ SB Trinity (girls)

This is supposed to be the last of five straight postponements for Triton thanks to COVID. The only

game the Lady Trojans (0-1) have played was Nov. 4.

Oregon- Davis @ Tippecanoe Valley (boys and girls)

This girls/boys doubleheader has been postponed until Dec. 23.
