The Rees is ‘Puttin’ on the Blitz!’
PLYMOUTH — In October of 2018 The REES hosted its first fundraising gala to the theme of Puttin’ on the Ritz, to benefit the campaign to restore and renew Plymouth’s historic theater. The result was an evening of celebration and community excitement. It was a sellout crowd and extraordinarily successful in raising funds to meet our goal and capture a Regional Cities Initiative grant. More importantly, it ignited a spirit of accomplishment in assuring a Plymouth landmark would continue to anchor the downtown and again provide entertainment to the area for generations to come.
This realization was shored up by the Plymouth Redevelopment Commission and countless individuals, businesses, organizations, contractors, and corporations. This has allowed for the completion of the first three, of four phases to reach completion. “a 2020 pandemic has interfered with our ability to personally meet with yet needed donors, but not in building relationships,” stated Randy Danielson a co-chair for The REES Project. “by virtue of an amazing marquee, The REES continues to connect with the community on a daily
basis.”
COVID has forced The REES, like many other local non-profits, to divert plans for a physical fundraiser into something virtual or to simply rely on the philanthropy of a charitable community.
On Dec. 1, Giving Tuesday, The REES Project Committee is announcing, its alternate fund drive, “Puttin’ on the Blitz”. Last December it was announced that Marshall County was awarded the 2019 Stellar Communities designation. The Marshall County Crossroads – Great Hometowns team selected The REES as one of the hallmark arts & culture projects. For The REES, this past year involved the completion of Phase 3, submitting the grant application and finalizing design details in preparation for Phase 4 to be released for bid in December. This phase physically finishes the interior over a period of eight to ten months.
Notification has been received that the grant has been awarded and the project will move forward. This federal grant is through the Indiana Office of Rural and Community Affairs (ORCA). “However, these dollars may only be used for construction and not the audio/visual equipment or furnishings needed to complete the theater and ready it for operation,” added Donna Pontius, a co-chair of the project. “So, it is not too late for you to support this project or expect a call and possible visit from a REES team member.”
Danielson pointed out that “There will be some shared naming opportunities payable over the next two years.
