Garden Court to break ground on Serenity Place

Garden Court, Inc. will conduct a Groundbrea­king Ceremony for their Plymouth Permanent Supportive

Housing Project, Saint Katharina Kasper Serenity Place, on Wednesday Dec. 16, at 11 a.m. at the project site, 1804 W. Jefferson St. in Plymouth. attendees may use the parking lot of Centier Bank adjacent to the site.

Garden Court, Inc. initiated developmen­t of this project in 2016 after an area study identified a compelling need for this type of housing in Plymouth and surroundin­g communitie­s.

Serenity Place will provide 18 units of permanent supportive housing for very low-income individual­s and families with children experienci­ng homelessne­ss. The developmen­t will include a two-story energy efficient building consisting of four one-bedroom units, 10 two-bedroom units, and four three-bedroom units. The building will include approximat­ely 11,000 square feet of residentia­l space and 5,000 square feet of community space. Community space will include on site laundry facilities, a case management office, and a community room.

Local partner organizati­ons will provide transporta­tion, case management services, mental health and substance abuse treatment and prevention, monthly food and clothing allotments, education opportunit­ies, and preventive health services to residents. Bradley Company will manage the project when leased.

Garden Court’s Serenity Place project was funded through a combinatio­n of sources including grant funds from the Indiana Housing and Community Developmen­t authority, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapol­is, and the Community Foundation of Marshall County, as well as donations from the City of Plymouth, the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, and Lake City Bank, in addition to loans from Lake City Bank and the Indiana Corporatio­n for Supportive Housing.
