No. 4 golf course in the state
CULVER - The Culver Academies R. Stuart Dickson (’47) golf course has been ranked the fourth-best in the state of Indiana for 2020-21 by GOLF Magazine. Among others, the nine-hole course ranked above Notre Dame’s Warren Course (No. 5), which hosted the U.S. Senior Open in 2019.
The magazine’s architecture editor stated, “This is one of the very best courses in the Midwest.” One of GOLF Magazine’s Top 100 Course Raters added, “The fact that it is ‘only’ nine holes is irrelevant, as shot after shot, this course possesses a number of fascinating questions that need to be answered. Just one round will have you scrambling to learn more about the Golden Age
design team of Langford & Moreau. A final tip of the cap to superintendent Michael Vessely - turf presentation is appropriately rustic, and preservation of the historical property looks to be in safe hands. For any student of design, Culver Academies is required reading on the syllabus.”
Created almost a century ago, the course was restored in 2015 by Bobby Weed Golf Design and revealed unique features that had been hidden over the decades as nature took its course. Golfweek ranked the course as the No. 2 campus golf course in America, second only to Yale University. Although not a public course, guests are allowed to play when accompanied by an authorized student, alumni, or employee.
