MCCC director brings two requests to commissioners
Marshall County Community Corrections Director Ward Byers came before the County Commissioners to request approval for two issues.
The first item involved the commissioner’s signature for a technology grant agreement.
Byers explained that the technology grant, from the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI), was received and was allocated funding for the coun
ty through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
“That was the monies that’s going to be utilized to develop a community resource app that we’ve discussed and also $60,000 toward PPE for the Criminal Justice community. That approval has been received and today requires signature of commissioners for final approval,” said Byers.
The agreement between the app company, OCV, and Marshall County presented to the commissioners is for the development of the app. The agreement also includes four years of service.
“The anticipated released date for that app is Jan. 15,” said Byers.
The cost of the development of the app and for those four years of service is $43,980. It also includes a marketing campaign, print ready documents for print and social media to drive people to the app stores where this app can be downloaded.
“They are a provider to the Indiana Sheriff’s Association. They do apps for Indiana sheriffs, sheriffs throughout the country as well health departments in other municipalities,” Byers said.
The community resource app will allow for county departments to release information to those that have the app. Examples include the Marshall County Health Department being able to release information regarding the public health, the County Highway Department being able to inform the public on road closures, and this app would also allow Emergency Management to release important information on emergencies.
According to Byers, this app will allow information to “be pushed out so people immediately without having to go look for it.”
The commissioners approved both requests.
Byers also informed the commissioners that Dec. 21 was the anticipated move date into the Community Resource Center. He stated that the move would be quick and the department would be out of the courthouse on the same day.
