Laville boys make initial appearance in high school hoops

- By Ron Haramia SPORTS WRITER

Athletic directors continue to schedule and reschedule high school basketball games as the calendar inches toward Christmas. COVID concerns still hamper rosters, but looking on the bright side, it is amazing that there have been so many games played this month. There will be four played tonight (I think) that involve area teams and another two on Wednesday. Here are capsule previews for those games.

Tues. tangles

Laville @ Bremen (boys)

Will Laville finally get to play? The Lancers are scheduled for three games this week - their first of the year - starting with this short road trip down U.S. 6 to face Bremen (2-1). The Lions are coming off their first loss of the young season, a 62-42 decision to Northern Indiana Conference foe New Prairie last Friday. Last year the Lancers defeated the Lions by seven.

Elkhart Christian academy @ Oregon-davis (boys)

Oregon-davis (1-0) hosts Elkhart Christian (2-1) tonight. Last year the Eagles knocked off the Bobcats by 10. O-D’S challenge may be slowing down ECA as they average 71 ppg.

Triton @ Bethany Christian (boys) Triton (2-1) has averaged nearly 70 ppg in its last two outings (both wins). Tonight the Trojans play their fourth straight road game, this time making the trip to Goshen to take on fellow Class 1A school Bethany Christian (1-2). Both have double-digit wins over Lakeland Christian this season. The Trojans defeated the Bruins, 74-42, last December.

morgan Twp. @ Glenn (girls) Originally this was going to be Plymouth at Glenn, but that was postponed and Morgan Township (7-2) was picked up as the Lady Falcons’ (3-2) opponent instead. It will be exactly a month since Glenn last played so bring on anyone, including the No. 9 (Class 1A) Lady Cherokees, the first of two games (hopefully) this week for the Lady Falcons.

Bremen @ Northwood (girls)

This non-conference contest has been postponed until Jan. 5. The JV game will go on a scheduled tonight though at 6:15 p.m.

Winamac @ Culver (girls, boys) This girls/ boys Hoosier North Athletic Conference doubleheader has been postponed due to COVID concerns.

Wed. watches

Jimtown @ Triton (girls)

Triton’s game Monday night with Northwood was postponed, but as of now, this rare Wednesday game - at home - with the Lady Jimmies is still on. Although just 1-3 in its last four games, the Lady Trojans (3-4) have been holding their own against stiff competition lately. Triton won last year’s meeting with Jimtown (1-5) by 15.

illiana Christian @ O-D (girls)

The first of three scheduled games for Oregon-davis (3-5) this week

has them hosting Class 2A Illiana Christian. The Lady Vikings have played more games than most girls teams (12), but has only two wins to show for it. This will be the first meeting between the two schools. They have played one common opponent - Morgan Township. O-D lost that game in overtime, while IC lost by 53.
