Jean K. Engle

June 22, 1930 - December 25, 2020

Jean K. Engle, age 90, passed away on Dec. 25, at Woodland Manor in Elkhart.

Jean was born the daughter of Maybra Manning Kelly and Edna Naomi Hileman on June 22, 1930 in Lasalle County, Ill. (Streator).

On June 19, 1949, she married Edward Howard Engle; he preceded her in death on April 30,2003. She worked as a packer and labeler of pickles, later retiring from Weidner Pilgrim Farms after 25 years of work. She loved watching horse racing and took a keen interest in her favorite horses and jockeys. She also showed champion Vizsla dogs. She enjoyed classical music, and wished for the Ride of the Valkyries to be played at her passing. Watching her hummingbirds and other bird inhabitants of her yard was a favorite pastime also. She attended Calvary Lutheran Church.

Those who will miss her are daughters Paula Jean Mcadams of Plymouth, Christine Engle of Plymouth, Victoria (Michael) Sprague of Plymouth, sons Mark (Jill) Engle of South Bend, Daniel Engle of Plymouth, Eric Engle of Plymouth, Gregory (Gaylene) Engle of Lapaz, and daughter Mary (Dan Grundy) Engle of South Bend. There are 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who will also miss her. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Robert H. Kelly.

In accordance with the family’s wishes, cremation services are being provided. A memorial will take place at a later date.
