NORTH LIBERTY – Elmer

Halt, 95, of North Liberty, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Wednesday, Jan. 6 at his residence.

He was born Oct. 1, 1925 in Marshall County, to the late

Fred and Irene (Seltenrigh­t)

Halt. Elmer became an orphan at the age of seven and was raised by Clem and Myra Dolph.

On Aug. 31, 1947 in North

Liberty, Elmer married Joyce M. Clark; and she survives.

Elmer was a skilled carpenter and member of the Carpenter’s Union #413 who worked at Mccracken Homes, Sollitt’s Constructi­on, and was a private contractor. He was baptized in 1945 and was a lifetime member and deacon of the Pine Creek Church of the Brethren. He did missionary work in Haiti and Puerto Rico.

After retirement, Elmer spent his time creating beautifull­y crafted wooden treasures for family and friends.

Surviving is his wife of seventy-three years, Joyce of North Liberty, and their children, Judy Astle, Mary (William) Stratton, Susan (Greg) Mauk, David Halt; a daughter-in-law, Laraine Halt; and an exchange student, daughter of the heart Yuko Inagaki Mori.

Also surviving are his eight grandchild­ren, Ben (Jennifer) Hughes, Jennifer (Erik) Robelli, Susan (Andy) Keller, Jeremy (Melissa) Westafer, Amanda (Jake) Felkner, Melissa Calderwood, Ariel (Steven) Bokshan, and Cassie Halt; fourteen great-grandchild­ren, Aiden and Ethan Hughes, Tyler, Celia and Eliana Robelli, Morgan and Paige Keller, Taylor Westafer, Riley and Caine Felkner, Andy, Ashleigh and Cally Calderwood, and George Bokshan.

Elmer was preceded in death by a son, Gary Halt; sister and brother-in-law, Mary (Bill) Crocker; and two grandchild­ren, Katy and Andy Mauk.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at Pine Creek Church of the Brethren, 25075 Stanton Road, North Liberty 46554, with Pastors Steve Vanhouten and Nathan Rosentrato­r officiatin­g. Visitation for friends will begin at 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. With the COVID-19 restrictio­ns, the church limited capacity is 50 people.

Burial will follow at Fair Cemetery in North Liberty. Memorial contributi­ons may be directed to Pine Creek Church of the Brethren - Church Park.
