Argos clamps down on O-D for fourth straight win

HAMLET - argos’ nearly perfect execution of its game plan combined with an off shooting night from Oregondavis led to a 39-11 Dragons win over its potential sectional foe Friday night at The Den.

“Defense was definitely the key to the win,” said argos head coach Gordon Mosson, whose team is now on a fourgame winning streak and winners of six of its last seven. “Our point of emphasis was to get after (Gavin) Sabo and (Dylan) Murphy and we did a nice job with that. Our focus for the whole game was about as good as it has been all year. Our communication was good. We had a game plan and the kids carried it out.”

Did they ever. Argos held O-D to just four field goals total and eventually found some offensive flow of its own to go with a decided advantage from the free throw line for the easy victory.

Sabo and Murphy, two of the Bobcats’ usual leading scorers, were each held scoreless, while three players tied for scoring honors with just three points each.

Argos wasn’t exactly setting the scoreboard ablaze either, but by halftime its balanced attack had four players with four points each and the lead was 13. Eventually, O-D put the Dragons in the bonus situation and Argos nailed 16-of-21 from the charity stripe, 11 coming in the fourth quarter alone. JJ Morris led the team in scoring with 14 points (8-10 FTS) and Michael Richard was next with a dozen (5-7 FTS).

“We run our set plays to get us going and to get a flow,” Mosson said of his team’s offense. “We were getting good shots so we were going to run it until they defended it better. When we get a good shot, we have to knock it down. I thought O-D played pretty good defense too though. They had a nice game plan

to double (post player) Dylan (Kindig) down low. They like to get physical with you. We wanted to keep our composure and I thought we did. It was a game where it would have been easy to lose your composure, but it was a nice win.”

Both teams will start play in the Bi-county Tournament Monday night, Argos at home versus New Prairie (6:30 pm) and O-D at Glenn (7 CT/ 8 ET).
