Boys basketball sectional venue changed

PLYMOUTH — In an announcement this afternoon from the Plymouth Athletic Department, the boys sectional basketball tournament originally scheduled to begin next week at Plymouth High School has been moved to Michigan City High School.

Financial considerations were cited as the reason for the change.

“this morning (Monday), at a planning meeting involving administrators from all schools participating the decision was made to change the site of the sectional from Plymouth High School to Michigan City High School,” said Plymouth principal Jim Condon in a Monday afternoon press release. “this is contingent on Plymouth High School serving as the host of the sectional in 2022.”

“the change was made with two things in mind,” said Condon in the release. “First, Laporte County is allowing 50 percent of gymnasium capacity or 3000 fans at a sectional game compared to 25 percent capacity at Plymouth which is 1000 fans for a sectional game.

“Second, by allowing more fans to attend the game at Michigan City, revenues generated from the sectional would be significantly higher and provide more assistance to each of the participating schools,” said Condon.

teams involved in sectional 3 — Culver Academies, Laporte, Michigan City, Mishawaka, Plymouth, South Bend Adams, and South Bend Riley — are scheduled to begin play next week, now at Michigan City.

the original schedule released started with CMA taking on Michigan City in the opening game on tuesday night at 7 p.m.

Wednesday’s 6 p.m. game would feature Laporte vs Mishawaka and at 8:15 p.m. Plymouth is slated to take on South Bend Adams.

Friday’s semi-finals will see South Bend Riley take on the winner of game one at 6 p.m. and the other two winners facing off at 8:15 p.m.

Saturday’s championship is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
