Holcomb extends orders

Governor Eric Holcomb’s COVID-19 executive order and 30 day public health emergency that were set to expire Sunday, Feb. 28 and Monday, March 1 respectively, have been extended.

While the metrics are reportedly moving in the right direction, Gov. Holcomb and state officials are hoping to maintain that trend, especially as the state prepares for a busy upcoming basketball season.

Holcomb explained, “We’re cruising into another important 30 day period. We’re going to have the eyes of the world, not just Hoosier eyes upon us, as we go into March Madness Season.”

Next month, the state is anticipated to host not only the men’s and women’s Big Ten teams but also players involved in the Ohio Valley Conference Championship, the Horizon League, and the NCAA Divisions 1 and 2 men’s tournaments.

The governor continued, “We’re going to have a lot of action and we want to make sure we stay moving the ball up court not squandering this place. That requires us to continue to play offense and defense, just like they’re going to do during March and that will require us to extend both of the orders for another 30 days.”

This most recent extension marks the twelfth renewal of the Public Health Emergency Declaration and the fourth continuation of the executive order that outlines county-based metrics and restriction based on the impact and spread of the coronavirus disease.
