Dan Eugene Rice, 60 passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 20, with his loved ones by his side. He courageously battled pancreatic cancer for several months. On March 5, 1960 in Plymouth, he was born to Robert Edwin Rice Sr and Marjorie Helen (Arick) Rice. Dan lived his entire life in the Marshall County area.

On Aug. 30, 1985 in Argos, at the Walnut Church of the Brethren he married Angela Allen, and together they shared the past 35 years.

More than anything Dan loved his family. He cherished the time spent with his wife Angie, children Lindsay (Matt) Emenhiser, Nick (Bethany) Rice, and Chelsea (Devan) Garcia, along with his grandchildren – who lovingly called him Papa – Lucy, Nora, Millie Garcia and Ben, Liam Emenhiser.

He also enjoyed spending any spare time in his shop/garage fixing, painting, restoring, and tinkering on cars and trucks. He did this selflessly for many family and friends; due to this trait unfortunately his 1951 Ford truck never got restored to its glory as he planned. His love for nature took him from coast to coast to many National Parks – hiking, exploring and taking in the grandeur of all that God had made.

Dan loved dogs, whether it was rescuing them from the MCHS, or for others that could no longer do so themselves. He currently has two beagles and a jack russell terrier. His two grand-pups Gypsy & Lt. Dan also gave him much joy. At last count there have been more than 25 dogs that he has loved on over the years.

Dan is survived by his spouse, children & their spouses, grandchildren; sisters, Sharon Zink and husband Harry; Judy Kelly; Jane Kiefer and husband Chris; brothers, Robert Rice Jr and wife Bonnie; Larry Rice and wife Christie; David Rice and wife Carol; and Richard Rice and wife Danita; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother-inlaw, Mike Kelly; father-in-law, H. Dennis Allen.

Friends may visit with the family on Saturday March 6, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Walnut Church of the Brethren Church, 5975 19th Rd., Argos. A Celebration of Life Eulogy will be shared at 1:30 p.m from Nick Rice.

Private Family Interment will follow at the Walnut Church of the Brethren Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Marshall County Humane Society; PO Box 22, Plymouth, Ind. 46563.
