Culver Youth Club ‘March’es toward Spring
As Spring approaches, the Culver Youth Club (CYC) is excited about some programming enhancements they have made over the winter months for members.
Director of Youth Programming Elizabeth Soltis is teaching Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) based activities every Monday.
Stephanie Minix is teaching home economics and life skills programming every Tuesday. The program included Smart girls for female members who are 8 years old and older.
Debbie Palmer, President of Lake Maxinkuckee Environment Fund and Council, volunteers time to facilitate the CYC Environment Club.
Palmer meets with members every Thursday. She chooses a monthly topic and facilitates weekly activities to help demonstrate those environmental con
cepts. “Last month was loads of fun! We talked about animal adaptations.”
Marianne Peters of the Recycle Depot brought the worm composting bing and present the importance of nature’s decomposers.
Palmer does not limit topics to Lake Maxinkuckee; and she makes an effort to make the activities engaging for members as they have attended class throughout the day. “I try to make it fun!”
Rachel Collins is facilitating a painting class “cookie and canvas.” That event will be held on March 17. Current members are already eligible for the program; parents who would like to pay the $6 rate for a day if they would like for their child to participate in that event.
CYC continues to seek volunteers to facilitate a weekly or monthly programming lesson.
Dana Neer overseas a community outreach program every month. During February, members visited with members of the Culver Lions Club to learn how to be of service to their community and the CYC organization. Members created handmade cards that will be distributed to members of the Culver Lions Club at their next meeting.
