SCILL Students of the Month
The SCILL Program is pleased to announce the Welding Studentof-the-month recipients for the month of February 2021 in the Welding Technology Program.
Brandon Hoefflicker is a first year student in the program. He attends Knox High School. Brandon is the son of Roger and Stacy Hoefflicker. His future plan is to apply to the Pipefitters Union. He is also interested in fabricating lift kits in a shop. He chose the welding program because he is a very “hands-on” person. He knew he was not meant for college so he joined the welding class to try it and fell in love with the trade. When asked, what have you enjoyed most about the SCILL experience? His response was, “I have enjoyed being able to learn a super valuable skill and all of the fun times we have in the class.”
Another first year student chosen for the month of February in the Welding Program is Jakob Huitt. He attends Oregon Davis High School. Jakob is the son of Seth and Tricia Huitt. He is a member of the Oregon Township Trailblazers. 4-H Club and a member of the Koontz Lake Missionary Church. His future plan is to apply as a boilermaker or pipe welder within a couple years upon graduation. He chose the welding program because he has always had an interest in welding and wanted to improve his knowledge on the skill. When asked, what have you enjoyed most about the SCILL experience? His response was, “I have enjoyed making new friends and learning something new every day.”
The Student-ofthe-month is chosen by the Welding Technology instructor, Rachel Moore, based on the student’s test scores, class participation, attitude, attendance and initiative in the shop.

Second year student, Billy Krumrie attends Plymouth High School. Billie is the son of William and Cheryl Krumrie. He currently holds a part time position at Oliver Ford in Plymouth. His future plan is to attend WYOTECH in Wyoming upon graduation. He chose the Automotive Technology Program because he grew up around mechanical work and has always been interested in the automotive field. When asked “What have you enjoyed most about the SCILL experience?” His response was, “I really enjoy the people I work with at SCILL. It’s been a really great experience.”
First year student recipient is Patrick Gott. He attends Knox High School. Patrick is the son of Donna Szpuk. His future plan is to seek employment in an automotive field. He chose the Automotive Technology Program because he enjoys working on vehicles. When asked, “What have you enjoyed most about the SCILL experience?” His
response: “Learning more in depth and widening my knowledge in the automotive field.”
The Student-of-the-month is chosen by the automotive Technology instructors, Josh Holdread and Levi Schleg, based on the student’s test scores, class participation, attitude, attendance and initiative in the shop.
SCILL is pleased to announce the Student-ofthe-month recipient for the month of February 2021 in the automation, Robotics, Equipment and Maintenance (AREM) Program.
First year student recipient is Christopher Powell of Knox High School. Chris is the son of Velta Powell. He is a member of the Knox High School Football and Wrestling Team. His future plan is to work as a lineman for an electric utilities company or apply for a position at the mill. He chose the robotics program as he felt it would give him a step up into the job market upon graduation. When asked “What have you enjoyed most about the SCILL experience?” His response was “Working with the tools on the mechanical machines.”
Instructor, Mr. Gregor added, “Chris is a good student and the most improved so far. This semester, he has achieved near perfect scores on all labs and assignments.”
The Student-of-the-month is chosen by the automation and Robotics instructor, Bill Gregor based on the student’s test scores, class participation, attitude, attendance and initiative in the lab.
The SCILL program has been operational since 1996. It was created by the Starke County Economic Development Foundation to assure that a qualified workforce was available to employers in Starke County.
