MMU rolls into action
MCHD to start traveling to schools today
“The unit works beautifully. We’re really excited to get it out on the road,” - Lisa Letsinger
MARSHALL COUNTY — Lisa Letsinger, public health nurse for the Marshall County Health Department (MCHD), informed the County Commissioners on Monday that the Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) would be traveling to schools around the county starting today.
“We will be out at all Marshall County schools doing COVID vaccine for staff,” she said.
The MMU will be visiting Plymouth Community School Corporation first.
after all the schools have been visited, Letsinger said they’ll cir
cle back and do some childhood vaccine updates for the schools in the county.
“We have lots of plans to have it out and about,” she said.
One of those plans includes visiting the Amish community with a possibility to park in the parking lot of Rentown. Letsinger has yet to receive approval from the business owner.
Last week, the MMU went on a “last minute trip just to test the waters” according to Letsinger. She said that they were still working on some of the data equipment in the unit. The “last minute trip” was to the Marshall County Jail to vaccinate some inmates. Having some doses left over, the MMU went somewhere else in the county.
“Because the vaccine comes in multi-dose vials, we did have a few doses left so we went over to the administration building here in town and also vaccinated some Plymouth Community School staff with the other doses,” she said.
Commissioner Kevin Overmyer asked Letsinger if the freezers are working properly. She responded that there’s “a little bit of a challenge” when it comes to the building where the MMU is being stored. The communication of the equipment works fine when it’s outside the building, according to Letsinger, but when it’s stored inside it doesn’t communicate as well.
“So, we’re moving some things around…to see if we get a little bit better single,” she said.
