- By James master Assistant Editor

PLYMOUTH — On Friday, Anna Barlow was chosen out of three candidates, during the Republican Caucus, to fill the vacant third seat on the Green Township Board. The other two candidates were Chancey Joe Dennie and Shawnda Wenino.

The main topic of discussion between the candidates was the status of the proposed Argos Fire Territory. There is a meeting on Thursday, March 25 at 7 p.m. located at the Argos Town Hall, 201 W. Walnut Street. That will be the fourth meeting concerning the territory. During the third meeting, there was a 1-1 tie when Green Township voted. Since it had to

be unanimously approved between Green, Walnut, and the Town of Argos, the establishment of the fire territory failed.

However, since that vacant seat on the Green Township Board is now filled, the vote on Thursday will decide the fate of the Argos Fire Territory.

Dennie stated that he had several people contact him about filling the position. He also said that he’s the third generation on his family farm. “The funding of it is my big concern,” he said about the fire territory. “I think it’s very unfair to the land owners.”

He clarified saying that he wasn’t opposed to the fire territory, he was opposed to the funding for it. When asked about alternative sources for funding, Dennie said, “They need to find a better way.”

Wenino said that she was born and raised in Marshall County and grew up in Walnut Township and resides in Green Township. She also touched on the importance of having Fire and EMS.

“Over the last 15 years, my family has utilized the Argos EMS. I had a greataunt who fell and broke her hip and a great-uncle, during a Thanksgiving dinner, had a medical seizure and EMS left their Thanksgiving dinner to come to my house,” she said. “So, I know how important it is to have the facilities and what we need.”

Wenino said that she was the best candidate because of past work experience in county government and her understanding of the system.

Barlow was not in attendance. Precinct Committeeman Kevin Dunham remarked that Barlow was “really hot on the job, wanting the job. She gave reasons.”

Dunham was the only person that voted that night. He chose to appoint Barlow to the board.
