Another drivethrough option now available

PLYMOUTH - One of the biggest business changes over the past year due to coronavirus pandemic was the increase in the number of drive-through services. Even getting the vaccine to combat the virus has been offered in this format, but mostly it manifested from the need for food establishments to stay open.

another drive-through option is now available as the Tri-way Drive-in movie theater in Plymouth opened last

weekend. The original start date was March 26, but shocker, plans changed due to covid.

“It was exciting to see such a good turnout on opening night,” said owner David Kinney during a TV interview, who admitted to one blemish to the start when no concession employees showed up.

Initially, the theater plans on being open on Friday and Saturday nights, expanding to Sunday nights as well in May, then open every night after Memorial Day weekend.

Tri-way originally opened on June 4, 1953 as a single screen venue. It is now a four-screen theater. The name came from its location on what was US 31 between US 6 and US 30. Janet Combs submitted the name and received a year’s family pass to the theater.

Admission is cash only. Cards are accepted at the concession stand. Admission prices posted on the website are $10 per person for two movies; $8 for children ages 4-11; ages 3 and under are free. The box office opens at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights and 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. There are rules for bringing in outside food or beverages. See the website for more information (triwaydrivein.com). The theater is located at 4400 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.

What’s new?

After the success of on-screen concerts last year, Tri-way plans to have approximately 10 of those this year, with a live concert or two a possibility as well.

Help wanted

Tri-way is still looking for a few quality cashiers, concession and security employees to fill out the staff. You need to be 18 years of age and have reliable transportation. bonuses include $50 if you are employed through August 15, an additional $25 bonus if you’re employed through Labor Day Weekend, and an additional $25 bonus if employed until the end of the season. Also possible bonuses paid if certain benchmarks on concessions are reached on concert nights.

Covid policies

Patrons must wear a face mask to go to the restroom or to get concessions. Each patron entering the theater must have a face mask or you may purchase one at the ticket booth.

Lawn chairs are permitted and you may sit in the back of your pick-up truck, but social distancing needs to be maintained. The theater is operating at 100 percent capacity so two vehicles are allowed between the poles.

Only a certain number of patrons will be allowed in the restroom at one time. You need to wash your hands before and after you use the restroom.

Concessions may be ordered from the take out window on the south side of the concession stand. Only one patron per vehicle is allowed in the concession line at a time. There will be a separate pick-up window by the picnic area.
