“The focus is on the kids. That’s what this is really about.” — Greg Compton

PLYMOUTH — Greg Compton began his 260 mile fundraising journey Monday for the “Robert ‘Bob’ Compton Memorial Fundraiser to Benefit Riley’s Children Hospital”. “The idea is to raise money for Riley. It’s important to me. My dad, they made it so he could walk and have a life, really. In 1924 or 25 they just pushed kids aside I think. If it wasn’t for Riley I wouldn’t be here today.”

Compton has planned the fundraiser for years and is eager to raise funds for a hospital that had a huge impact on his family. He said the effort received a surge of support Monday. “We had a tremendous surge yesterday [Monday] in donations as well including a $2600 donation from the generous folks who own the Dairy Queen at the state line. They also let us use the parking lot to begin my walk.”

Tuesday Compton walked from New Road located north of Lakeville and ended at his residence located on North Michigan St.

Wednesday he walked from his home and headed south through downtown Plymouth, meeting

supporters at the Marshall County Crossroads Museum.

Compton is scheduled to complete his fundraising walk of 260 accumulative miles on April 24 on the Clark Memorial Bridge in Louisville, Ky.
